Wow, this week made me have to look for my thinking cap!

Here are the fill-in-the-blanks:

1. _______________________ a ___________________________________.
2. My favorite magazine is ________________________________________.
3. Recently, ____________________________________________________.
4. Even though _________________, I ____________________ __________.

Here are my responses:

1. I would love to move to a house out in the middle of no freakin' where. Nothing but woods with a clearing in the center, and beautiful, isolated scenery as far as the eyes can see. No dragon neighbors, so I can safely breathe. No booming music, so I stand a chance at a day with no headache. I want a place with plenty of beautiful things to photograph AND a lower food bill because maybe I could actually get something to grow.

2. My favorite magazine is AfterCapture, I think. I really don't currently have a favorite. I like most any of them that will help me to become a better photographer. I also love Sew Beautiful and Creative Needle, at least the way they used to be and any knitting and crocheting magazine. I'm not really picky about the magazine title. I just want to be able to make pretty and/or cute things, especially baby things.

3. Recently, I read a very upsetting article from quite some time ago. A family was moving from one home to another. The mama and the kids were sitting on a sofa in the back of a very loaded truck with a man driving. Her husband was following up the rear in another vehicle. A freight train had gone down the line and the crossing signals were still going off. The driver of the truck with the mama and the babies went to cross the tracks after the freight train had cleared. Only thing is, he didn't see the passenger train that was approaching. Its view was blocked out by the freight train. The train hit the car and killed the mama and her 3 year old and her 4 month old. Her husband was far enough behind that he didn't see what had happened or to whom it had happened. He got out of his vehicle to check out what was going on like everyone else. Once he got through the crowd, he was face-to-face with his dead wife and babies. What a horrible scene to come upon.

4. Even though my arthritic hands are very shaky and I can't remember how to set my camera from one session to the next, I still want to be a great photographer. I want to photograph the beauty that Heavenly Father has created out there in nature for us to enjoy. I have all but given up pursuing this dream, but the want to is still very much inside me. Even though my memories of my childhood are spotty at best, I want to be able to leave a book of memories of me for my children. Even though I knit at a speed of about 2 stitches a week, I want to be able to knit beautiful garments for those that appreciate handwork and for potential future grandchildren. I want something to be left of me when I am no longer around, something that shows them that their Moogie loved them even before they came into being.

  2. Thank you for participating, I enjoyed your answers-except for the very awful story, that is so sad.
I think it is beautiful that you are knitting for future grandkids. I have never heard of AfterCapture magazine. I do like getting crochet ones from the library and copying the patterns I like Have you gone to ravelry.com? They have patterns for everything and you can check off that you just want knit or crochet and ones for free. Have a great weekend!

    1. Thank you, Ellen, for co-hosting the fill-ins with Annie. I enjoy them very much, especially those, like this one, that really challenge me to think.

AfterCapture isn't so much a photography magazine as it is a magazine with tutorials of things to do to the photos in the editing stages. It was an AfterCapture tutorial that I used to create a pastel image from a photo of a great tree in a state park here. Once I find the link to that post, I'll add it to this post.

Thank you for the suggestion of Ravelry.com. It is a great site! I have gotten free patterns there and have bought a few patterns through them as well. What is your favorite pattern that you have gotten through them?

Thanks for stopping by and commenting. Have a great weekend, too. :)

  3. Well, #1 speaks to me. We are looking to relocate to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, though we would live in town, albeit a small town. We are getting older and need the conveniences thereof. Life is so very different UP there.
Oh, my heart...#3. How utterly, deeply, totally tragic. I could envision this scene.
Your #4 is sweet. Hugs! Annie at ~McGuffy's Reader~

    1. Annie, when will you know for sure if you're going to get to move up there? It sounds like an exciting adventure and one that will definitely involve snow at some point. :)

Yes, it was a very sad story and I have read so many sad ones over the last few weeks. I have read many where the husband has flipped out and killed the wife and kids. In one case, the man killed his mother-in-law and his wife and then the wife's brother killed him back. This brother-in-law was 19 and I think it was considered self-defense. He didn't have to go to jail, thankfully. The thing about this that annoyed me to no end was their obituary. The husband that killed his wife and MIL got top billing in the obituary. All of his stuff and folks were listed first, then the wife and then the MIL. I think he should have had a separate one entirely and the women shouldn't have been treated as afterthoughts. It was just a bad thing all around. I don't remember what set him off, but I understand entirely the 19 year old's response to it. The husband had intended to go to reload his gun and kill the other folks, too. He had told them so before the boy shot him. Times were supposedly more calm and civil back then, but these newspaper articles do not support that thought at all. There's lots of very sad reading in them.

Thank you, Annie, for co-hosting the fill-ins with Ellen and for stopping by here to comment. Have a great weekend!

  4. I live exactly where you describe in #1. We have even thought about turning our home into a B&B for people who'd like to get away from it all, sit on the front porch and gaze at beautiful scenery...but I think it's actually *too* quiet out here for most people and besides, no one wants to be here in January, February, and March. LOL

Horrible story about the accident. That is terribly sad.

My knitting is better than yours. I think I do 3 stitches a week. LOL

Hope you have a wonderful weekend. - Judy

    1. Pick me! Pick me! There's no such thing as too quiet! I'm sure the birds are sinking and the wind whistles through the trees. How blessed you are to live where you do. :) Why don't they want to be there in the winter? Is it because of snow and cold weather? Winter is my favorite season and we don't really get one here on the Texas Gulf Coast. Where you're at sounds just about like Heaven to me!

Too funny! Three stitches a week. :) How long have you been knitting? I don't think that I will ever be a super fast knitter, or even a mildly fast one, but I would love to be.

Thanks for stopping by and commenting. I hope that you're having a great weekend, too. :)

    1. Thank you! I hope so, too, though if we had it, I would probably be outside taking photos instead of being inside knitting. Knitting and crocheting would have to be my rainy day activities. :)

Thanks for stopping by and commenting. Have a great weekend!

  6. I never lived in the middle of nowhere and don't think I would like it. I like living in the city. I can knit and crochet, crocheting is my preference. It is wonderful to make one of a kind gifts.

    1. I've never lived in the middle of nowhere either. The last place that I lived with my parents was as close as I ever got. It was in a rural area, but had a subdivision right across the street in the front and one to the side across our creek and tree line. I have lived in town, albeit small towns, pretty much my entire life. I've never lived in a big city except for when I went to USC, but that was in a dorm on campus and just not the same. What kind of city do you prefer, the really huge ones like Houston or Atlanta, or the smaller ones like Charleston or Savannah?

I can do both, too. Crocheting is faster and easier for me and I can fix the mistakes without having to rip it all apart. What makes crocheting your preference? What is your favorite thing to crochet?

Thanks for stopping by and commenting. Have a great weekend!

  7. I LOVE your idea of the cabin in the woods. I definitely would like to get out of suburbia. I like people just fine, but wide open spaces I like more.

What a horrible tragedy for that family. I can't even imagine.

    1. Thanks, Leslie. :) For me, I've had just about enough of neighbors. We can't even turn off our air conditioner to enjoy today's cooler weather because their cigarette smoke comes pouring in whenever we do turn it off. We should be able to breathe in our own home. Wide open spaces would be great! If you could live in any rural area that you wanted, where would you want to live? Anywhere in particular or it doesn't matter?

I would love in the middle of nowhere in a place that has definite seasons, though I do appreciate the long growing season in this part of Texas. I would appreciate it even more if I could successfully grow something. :)

Yes, it was a horrible tragedy. I just can't imagine how that man went on after that. How does one recover from something like that?

Thanks for stopping by and commenting. Have a great weekend!
