Book Review: When God Happens: True Stories of Modern Day Miracles by Angela Hunt and Bill Myers

When God Happens: True Stories of Modern Day Miracles by Angela Hunt and Bill Myers

Goosebumps, that is the best way to describe what I felt when reading When God Happens: True Stories of Modern Day Miracles by Angela Hunt and Bill Myers.

Many people do not believe in angels. I would imagine that most do. It is amazing how angels often appear when we least expect them. We enjoyed every story in this book and really hope the editors are able to create the series.

Each story in When God Happens was written by one of the people who actually experienced the miracles of God. Too often we are willing to listen to the world and believe that what we have experienced is just coincidence or just a fluke or dumb luck.

We are told that we often entertain angels unawares (Hebrews 13:2). If we just allow ourselves to let go and let God, we can often see His amazing work.

This book deserves all five stars. It is very well-written and very inspiring. If you like to hear inspirational stories about Christians who believe in the power of prayer and in letting Jesus Christ speak to them, this book is for you.

We feel that this would make a great small group book to read together at a church or with a prayer group to discuss and build faith.

You will find yourself not being able to put When God Happens down. It is just that good. You will probably want to buy several copies to give your friends and a copy to put in your church library.

As a side note, this is the 100th book we have read in our Goodreads 2018 challenge. We think it is awesome that this is the one that put us over the top.

Book Review: Rising on the Wings of the Dawn by Simon R. Ninsiima

Rising on the Wings of the Dawn by Simon R. Ninsiima

If you need to have your faith revived, then Rising on the Winds of the Dawn by Simon R. Ninsiima will do it.

This is a very interesting and detailed story of a little boy in Uganda who gets polio and his family’s strong Christian faith.

We are painted a picture of the author’s early life, before polio, and then all of the struggles, hardship, and pain he and his family went through after polio.

We give Rising on the Wings of the Dawn all five stars. This is one book you just can’t put down.

Book Review: Reaching Your Next Summit! 9 Vertical Lessons for Leading with Impact by Manley Feinberg II

Reaching Your Next Summit! 9 Vertical Lessons for Leading with Impact
By Manley Feinberg II

It is very engaging how Manley Feinberg II was able to weave leadership lessons into several very entertaining stories about extreme rock climbing in some amazing locations.

We give Reaching Your Next Summit! 9 Vertical Lessons for Leading with Impact by Manley Feinberg II all five stars on just the amazing photography.  Add in a very entertaining story or two and some leadership lessons and you have yourself one awesome book.

Feinberg makes the characters in this book come alive.  His story of how one airline employee was indifferent to his plight, but then how several others came to his aid, is very well-told.

The reader sits on the edge of his seat while reading to find out what happened in several third world countries where Manley was trying to get to his once-in-a-lifetime climb.  And then again when he is trying to get back home.

Reaching Your Next Summit! should be on your gift list of books to give the business and/or management student on your Christmas gift list.

We were sent a complimentary copy of this book.  We are under no obligation to write any review, positive or negative.

Book Review: Tales of the Revolution: True Stories of People who are Poking the Box and Making a Difference by Seth Godin

Tales of the Revolution: True Stories of People who are Poking the Box and Making a Difference
by Seth Godin

This book, Tales of the Revolution: True Stories of People who are Poking the Box and Making a Difference by Seth Godin, is a collection of submissions about different people.

We gather that Godin, or someone on his behalf, asked people to submit the names and stories of people who “Poked the box” that is, people who did not accept the status quo and did what they needed to do and accomplished great things because of it.

Godin is the undisputed guru of marketing.  This collection appears “as written” by contributors. Many of these stories are uplifting and inspiring.

We give Tales of the Revolution all five stars.  We think it is inspiring and entertaining at the same time.

It appears that this book is only available in the Kindle format.  This is okay because Amazon makes it easy to get free apps that allow you to read Kindle books on your computer or Smartphone.

We were given a free copy of Tales of the Revolution through a Kindle promotion.  We are under no obligation to write any review, positive or negative.

Book Review: Choices: The True Story of One Family’s Daring Escape to Freedom By J. E. Laufer

Choices: The True Story of One Family’s Daring Escape to Freedom

By J. E. Laufer

We were provided an advanced reader copy of Choices: The True Story of One Family’s Daring Escape to Freedom so that we might make a review.

This book starts off twelve years after the liberation of Auschwitz.  The end of that awful period in history known as “The Holocaust” was not the end of suffering for many families. Communism was rampant in Hungary. There was much oppression still for the Jewish people.

Kati, the main character of this story, relives some awful memories of her time at Auschwitz that, at times, had me fighting back the tears. This story, though, is not about her experiences in the concentration camp, but of her family, her husband and their two young children in post-war Hungary. It is a story of parents wanting better for their children, when the potential of the unknown is so much greater than the known.

Overall, this story is one of hope, and faith...oh so much faith! and a determination to run for freedom, in spite of the risks.

Choices gets all five stars. It is a wonderfully inspiring story, one that reminds us that faith can move mountains.  It can give us strength to press on when we think we can’t move another inch, but we know we need to, especially for the children.

We recommend this book to all of our readers, especially those with a love of history and stories of faith.

Have a blessed day!
