May: Osteoporosis Awareness and Prevention

Judy Cohen, Outreach Coordinator of the American Recall Center asked me to post the following infographic to help spread the word about osteoporosis.

This is a disease that I know can be devastating. My sweet grandma, Maggie Spence, had osteoporosis. I know that she would want to do what she could to help prevent others from suffering as she did.

Please visit the American Recall Center to read more about it.

  1. One that we should be screened for by 40 I believe. You don't know you have it until it is too late! Thanks for sharing this information!

    1. You're welcome. I think there are quite a few things that they should start screening for sooner than they do, given the number of younger people that are dealing with the various issues. I have a younger cousin that was diagnosed with cervical cancer when she was 17 years old. These things know no age boundaries.

I remember back in South Carolina years ago, there was a program for screening low-income women for breast cancer. The free screenings didn't start until age 47, but the recommendations were to have a mammogram by age 40. So, what about those 7 years in between? It just always made me think that perhaps they were trying to weed out the poor people by insuring they were incurable before they could qualify for the screenings. Anyway, there has to be a better way.
