Currently...A Life List

https://smidgensbitsandsnippets.blogspot.com/2016/11/the-end-of-november-life-list.html

This should have been posted Monday, but I'm forever late these days. Better late than never, eh? :) Please click the image above to visit Paula's Currently...A Life List post. She's a great gal!

Looking out my window...I see a beautiful day with a bit of a breeze. We were met with a temperature of 68 degrees when we went out to take our daughter to work. I love it!

As I ponder...What I am pondering is how a person is supposed to feel that their life matters when everything is working against them, down to the point of not even being able to breathe safely, but having no means to leave the unsafe environment. I'm wondering how the Happy Hildas of this world are able to maintain that smile when so many things come along to give reason not to. I understand the eternal aspects of things. It is the here-and-now that has to be dealt with right now and it is causing anything but a smile. I feel overwhelmed.

How do you deal with those times you feel that you are getting lost in the midst of everything going on around you?

What I am learning...No matter what I do or how much I try to do, I am always going to have "to didn'ts" at the end of my "to do" list.

What I am creating...I am still working on the purple hat.  I started trying to make a bag using clothesline rope. Well, that ain't happenin'! My hand and shoulder rebelled saying it was just too hard to work with. I finally pinned down a pattern for my sweater, too. Now, to find time to get started on it. Here's the link: Diary of a Creative Fanatic.

What I am reading....I am still working on Uninvited by Lysa Terkeurst.

What I am watching...I am watching the dog be a dog and David edit a review video that he is working on about a dog toothbrush.

What I am hearing...There is a big truck rumbling up the road and the ever-present sound of our air conditioner going. Since we can't open the windows for fresh, cool air to blow through thanks to the cigarette smoke from next door, we have to run our air conditioner 24/7/365. If we don't, it is just too difficult to breathe in here.

Pictures I want to share...Here are a few photos from our visit to the gazebo on the town square last week. The pictures aren't up to par (I have to re-learn the camera every time I use it), but we had a fun time anyway and that is what matters in the end.

Merry Christmas from Wharton, Texas!

There's one in every crowd.  Three in mine. :)

"Okay, okay, I'll get in the picture. I'll art with you," says mama to the baby girl.
What are we coloring...Pretty much all of my coloring is digital coloring these days. I haven't done any in a while. Here is one of the last things that I remember working on:
I haven't given much thought to the whole adult coloring trend, but last night I saw a coloring book that was pretty tempting to me. It was The Jungle Book. We'll see how it goes.

What's happening in the kitchen...Today, I am going to try my hand at making turkey salad from leftover Thanksgiving Day turkey. I am not following a recipe. I am just going to chop up the turkey, add mayo, celery, garlic, and onion, and possibly some sage. I'll mix all that together and then see if I can find a willing victim to test it out.

David, circa 1963.  Yep, I think he'll eat it.

A quote I want to share...I found two quotes that I want to share. One that made me grin and the other one I think is just beautiful. The Dr. Seuss speaks very much to how I am feeling these days. There's just no time to get everything done. Time is speeding along whether I am or not!

How did it get so late so soon?
Its night before its afternoon.
December is here before its June.
My goodness how the time has flewn.
How did it get so late so soon?
~Dr. Seuss

God gave us memory so that we might have roses in December.
~James M. Barrie

Look who's visiting...These girls visit often with each other.
Callie and Little Bit, November 2016

A peek into my week...All that is left for the rest of this week is taking our oldest daughter into the City for an interview tomorrow and getting her back and forth to work otherwise.

A final thought...I can sit here hoping that December will be a slower month than November or I can be realistic, knowing that it is going to be just as hectic. I need to find a way to get done the things that need to be done and, maybe, a few things on the "want to" list will happen, too.

  1. And I did eat it, too. It was very good, not enough sand. Zing! Zing!

    1. Well, then, we'll have to get a sand refill the next time we go to the Island to get the baby girl so that I can add it to your turkey salad. :)

  2. There is never a correct day for the Life List Suzanne. You just do what works for you. I have a friend who does it on Sunday and calls it the Gramma Log. You are lucky to still be having wonderful temps. Ours dropped and we had a strong north wind today so it made it feel even colder. We are at 28 degrees right now. Brrrrrr! I am pondering what you pondered! I will need to give that some more thoughts!! I have a few adult coloring books. I find it very relaxing. I do both colored pencils and gel pens. Harley colors with me so that makes it even more fun! You and David crack me up with your comments. I loved the picture of him eating sand. Too cute!!
I loved both your quotes. Dr. Seuss is one of my favorites!! Here's hoping your week is awesome. Who cares if we get it all done or not. It will wait on us!!

    1. Thank you, Paula. I'm so sorry to take this long to respond to your comment. I like your friend's title "Gramma Log". That is cute.
Is this your regular temperature for this time of the year? We're supposed to get down to 29 on the night of December 8th. That hasn't been typical for this area, at least not since we moved here 12 years ago.
How did your pondering of my pondering go? I'd love to hear what you came up with!
I think it is great that coloring is relaxing for you. I have always loved to color, but just haven't fallen into doing the current trend. I was going to get the Jungle Book coloring book that I saw, just to give it a go, but that was one expensive coloring book! It was over $11. I just couldn't spend that much on a coloring book.
I'm glad that David and I make you laugh. :) I thought that was an adorable picture of him, too. There is also a picture of him with his daddy holding him while he conks his sister over the head with a spoon. haha
I like your attitude, "It will wait on us!" :)
I hope you have had a great week and have a blessed weekend!
Thanks for stopping by and commenting. :)

    2. No problems Suzanne! It is a busy time of the year. Yes, this is normal temps for us at this time of the year. The 60's and 70's we were having in November were NOT normal. Today it is 39 and already afternoon. This is more normal for us. It is hard to know how we are supposed to act when things aren't going how we want them to go. I would think there would be someone you could turn to about the cigarette smoking. Have you tried the Health Department?? Yep, $11 is too expensive for a color book. I print pictures off the INTERNET sometimes. My son got me some books last year for Christmas too. Hope you are having a good weekend!

    3. Then I think that I need to move to Kansas. :) I am hoping that we get to go up there again some day. Since we have visited the graves of all of our great-grandparents, now I want to visit them for all of our 2nd great-grandparents. Four of David's are buried there in Kansas. One is in Spearville, one in Oak Valley, and two in Neodesha. Maybe some day we'll get to go. We were in Coffeyville while we were evacuated for Hurricane Rita back in 2005. We actually stayed in Tulsa, Oklahoma, but popped into Kansas for a day trip. It was great! I loved the wind. :)

Regarding the smoking, there isn't a health department in this county. There is one in the city of Houston, but it doesn't cover this area as far as we understand it. We're about 60 miles from the city of Houston. Since it isn't illegal to smoke, I don't know what they would or could do about it. I do know back in South Carolina if a child had something like asthma and the parents continued smoking, they risked having the child removed from their home by social services. It almost happened to someone that we knew.

It was a sweet thing for your son to get you the coloring books last year. Maybe you'll get a reload this Christmas. :)

Our weekend is okay, so far, just very tiring. I hope that you're having a great weekend, too. :)

  3. Your turkey salad sounds good. Are those your kitties? Very pretty.
Great photos. I would not want to live where you live. I don't know if you own or rent, but if I were you, I would get into some housing for the disabled-it sounds like you both have health issues that would qualify. I hope things get better.

    1. Thanks, Ellen. We don't own these kitties. They are several generations down from the stray female that met us here just after we moved to Texas. Every cat in the neighborhood uses our carport as the birthing center. Sometimes they stay around, sometimes they don't. Both of these kitties were born here. The calico kitty (Callie) is about a year and a half old. The grey kitty (Little Bit) is several years old. Callie is a half-sister or cousin to our Angel Xerxes. There were three black and white kitties that lived here for awhile, Bagel Bites, Meowlitzer, and Tuna. They looked so much alike that most of the time I didn't know which one I was seeing. So, I don't know if Callie and Xerxes came from the same mama or two different ones. Bagel Bites is the only one of the three black and white kitties still coming around. She is also the mother of Dandelion, who was the last survivor of her 2016 litter and has since disappeared, too. There have been many, many kitties to come into our hearts, both here and in South Carolina. All of the South Carolina kitties that we brought to Texas were gone to the Bridge by the time Davey joined the Marines.

In regards to the suggestion about disabled housing, yes, we both have significant health issues. We have never heard of anything like disabled housing in this area. If it were to be something like an apartment situation, the bad part of having neighbors would still be an issue. The smokers might be even closer. :( Thank you for the suggestion, though. I appreciate you trying to think of ideas to help us out of a bad situation. You are a good friend and a blessing.

Thanks for stopping by and commenting. Have a blessed weekend!
