Sunshine Blogger Award

The Sunshine Blogger Award recognizes bloggers who are positive and creatively inspiring.  Somehow I got one. :)  Annie from over at McGuffy's Reader blessed me with this award.   Thank you, Annie, for being such a blessing to me and for thinking me worthy of this award.  Please be sure to visit her over at: McGuffy's Reader.

I know that some folks accept awards and some do not. I can't remember who does or doesn't. So, if I give you this award and you don't accept it that is okay. No offense will be taken. Just know that I thought you were a bright spot in my day.

Rules:

*Thank the person who nominated you and add a link to their blog.
*Answer the eleven questions sent by the person who nominated you.
*Nominate eleven other bloggers, adding their links and asking them eleven new questions.
*Notify the bloggers you have nominated.

The Questions Asked of Me:

1. What did you want to be when you grow up?

I wanted to be a wife, a mama, a school teacher, and an architect. Three out of four is great, in my opinion.

2. Who was your childhood hero?

I don't know that I had any childhood heros. Maybe my Teddy bear; I could tell him things that I couldn't tell anyone else and he listened.

3. What is your favourite song?

Pretty much anything that our guys sing is a favorite of mine. "Our guys" would be the Statesmen Quartet when it was Denver Crumpler, Jake Hess, Doy Ott, Jim 'Big Chief' Wetherington, and Hovie Lister. It was in the early to mid-1950s when they sang together.

4. What was your first pet?

I had a little brown dog named Spark Plug (my daddy worked on cars in his spare time). He was the same color as the dirt in our driveway. Daddy ran over him when he came in from work one day. He didn't see him in the driveway.

5. Who was your favourite teacher?

It would be easier to name my least favorite teacher, I think. That prize goes to my first grade teacher Miss Cromer. There were several that I just loved, but the two main ones were Mrs. Pennington (11th grade US History) and Miss Elrod (8th grade, English…she also taught my mama). Both of these ladies were tough cookies and could see the potential in their students. If they didn't think you were living up to your potential, they called you on it. They commanded, not demanded, respect and I was more than happy to give it. They were wonderful, caring teachers. I wish that all teachers were like them.

6. What was your best vacation?

As a child, probably when my family went to Ghost Town in the Sky. As an adult, one of the neatest 'vacations' that we had wasn't really a vacation at all. We had to evacuate due to Hurricane Rita in 2005. We stayed at a hotel in Tulsa, Oklahoma, but took a day trip up to Coffeyville, Kansas. It was wonderful!

Overall, though, my very best vacation was our honeymoon. We went to all sorts of places in South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee, dipped down into Missisisippi, and drove through Georgia, too. We saw the Biltmore House, Graceland, and The Hermitage. Since we were in the mountains in the cold part of the year, there were some things that we didn't get to do because they were closed for the season, like Dollywood and The Grand Ole Opry and several other things.

7.What is your favourite time of day?

I am a night owl by nature, so any time after dark. The only time I am a morning person is if I just haven't gone to bed yet from the night before.

8. Who was your first friend?

The first friend that I remember was Allison Atkins. We were in elementary school together and always ate lunch together. She wore glasses as I did and she had long, straight, dark hair.

9. What is your favourite season?

Winter is my favorite season. I do not like hot weather. But, the winters here on the Texas Gulf Coast are generally at least warm, never really cold by a Carolina girl's perspective. One Christmas Eve, it was 89 degrees. That ought to be illegal.

10. Do you have a phobia?

I don't know if this is a phobia or just a fear, but I am afraid of being deserted. I am also terrified of public speaking.

11. What would you like to do-over?

This changes depending on what is going on at the time, but at the moment, I would like a do-over on our wedding. I would like for it to be 100% the way we wanted it and when we wanted it, more specifically, when *I* wanted it.

    1. Thanks! And also, thank you for the smiles that you bring me each day. :)

I wanted our wedding to be on September 13. David and I started going together on 13 August 1981. On 12 September 1981, we broke up because boys just don't understand some things. Anyway, when we were planning our wedding date, I wanted it to be September 13 (1984) to represent the continuation of our relationship. I know it sounds silly and I am having trouble wording it, but it worked in my head at the time. :)

The reason it was put off was allegedly due to the local college football schedule. Home vs away games and all that jazz...just one more reason for me to hate football. It got pushed back to November 3 and still many of the folks were at the wedding with headsets on to listen to the game instead of being in the moment.

So, in my head and heart, our anniversary is September 13, and November 3 is the day that we got married.

      Have a blessed day. :)

    1. You're welcome, my Zing. :) I think it would be great to have a chicken in the garage, but not until the raccoons are out of there. The cars in the pot, I'm not so sure of.
