Here are the fill-in-the-blanks:

1. My favorite way to exercise is ________________________________.
2. Something I learned last week was ____________________________.
3. I am sentimental about ______________________________________.
4. Some people may find it surprising to know______________________.

Here are my responses:

1. My favorite way to exercise is to lift the fork of cheesecake and shrimp to my mouth and then down to the plate for another hunk of cheesecake and shrimp. Then repeat as often as possible.

2. Something I learned last week was that one of David's uncles was killed on the courthouse square in Edgefield, South Carolina. This week, I learned that uncle's name and the name of the killer and what was going on that got the uncle shot. You can read more about that here: Pay-Dirt!

3. I am sentimental about ancestors and other people and places from my past.

4. Some people may find it surprising to know that, when I was first learning to drive, I would go out of my way to avoid having to make a left-hand turn. Also, if a big truck got behind me, I would pull over to the side of the road and let them pass by. They scared me to death!

Please be sure to read David's post over at Random Thoughts and Observations.

  1. Thank you for participating, I enjoyed your answers. I love the way you exercise, I may try that :) You are really good at researching your ancestors and finding information. Have a great weekend!

    1. Thank you and Annie for hosting the fill-ins. David and I really enjoy it. :)

If I exercised like that as often as I would want to, then I would definitely have to figure out how to do "real" exercise. haha Have fun!

Thank you. Family history research is my passion. I have always loved history. The two blend together perfectly. I have been able to learn our families' places in history, the founding of this country, the governance of it, and way too many things to list. As I am able to put some of what I've learned down on paper (screen?), I will make posts about it. I just have an awful time "wordsing" (as the kids say) on an intelligent level lately.

Thanks for stopping by and commenting. Have a blessed weekend!

  2. LOL! The Cheesecake and shrimp workout sounds like a fun one! :)

Oh no! I'm so sorry about David's uncle!

I'm sentimental about ancestors, too - a few of my relatives have been working on a family tree for a number of years, it's been interesting seeing who I'm related to!

That's funny you avoided left-hand turns when you were learning to drive! Big trucks definitely make me nervous - some of them are rogue drivers!

    Have a great weekend! :)

    1. It would be an amazingly fun, but very expensive, way to exercise. But, hey, I would die happy. haha

Thank you. This was one of his wayyyyyyyy back uncles, back in 1840. I have updated the post to share a link to the story. That particular part of the family met with an awful lot of sadness through the years, which I further detailed in the comments on that post.

While researching your family history, be sure to keep records of your own life now. Find books or websites geared toward helping you create a memoir/memory book for your own children. Write about how you and your husband met, first date, that sort of thing. If you know these answers for your parents and grandparents, put that down, too. We all have questions that we want to ask, but no one is left that can answer them. Answer your own questions now, in writing or recording, for your children, so they don't have to always wonder, too.

It's funny now, especially since I've since had to make left-hand turns in places like Houston and Corpus Christi. Back then, they scared me to death. The trucks still make me nervous, to a degree, but nothing like they used to. I know they could squish me if they wanted to, but I don't pull over for them anymore. If anything, my Zoomie likes to challenge them. :) Mack truck 0. Ford Fiesta 490.

  3. I don't care much for shrimp but I am with you on the cheesecake exercise. I don't know much about my ancestors but a couple I do know were interesting. I worked for a woman who drive blocks out of the way to avoid left turns.

    1. What is your favorite kind of cheesecake?

What do you know interesting about your ancestors? I'd love to hear it. :)

Do you know why your boss was afraid of left-hand turns? I think that part of my left-turn fear stemmed from the fact that I am legally blind in my left eye. There just seemed too much opportunity for me to miss seeing someone coming. Right turns were/are much easier. I've gotten over it for the most part, thank goodness. :)

  4. LOL - Cheesecake would not really do it for me, but if you change that to hot fudge brownie, I am definitely tempted!
I used to slow down every single time a car would pass me on the opposite side. Like....sllllooooowwww down. LOL Crazy, I wasn't even aware I was doing it until a friend mentioned it.

    1. I am probably guilty of slowing down when folks go to pass me sometimes. Mostly because these doofuses out here pass on curves with on-coming traffic. I want them to get on around me as quickly as possible before they get us all killed. For the most part, though, I think I hold a steady speed. The other day, a big truck was trying to pass me, but was having trouble for some reason. I was already going 10 miles less than the posted speed limit, so I held steady until I realized he was having trouble. I saw an oncoming car, so I slowed down so that he would have an easier time of it, but about that same time, he had started to tuck back in behind me. Finally, though, he got around and didn't smash into the car that was coming. For the most part, everybody goes into the shoulder of the road when an oncoming car is passing because there's not really any other choice. Are you more comfortable with passers these days?

I could be tempted with a hot fudge brownie, too. :) How about a hot fudge brownie cheesecake...with a shrimp chaser? haha

  5. Oh, I love shrimp, and cheesecake, too! YUM!

Bill's grandmother was murdered when his dad was a child. Recently, we found out some of the real story. What a mess! I am sentimental about ancestors, too. I have no family ties, now.

I got my license later than most kids. I had no vehicle to practice with, and no one to assist me. I was so determined to get it and be independent!

I missed out on your meme! I hope you will do it again!

Thanks for being a part of Friendly Fill-Ins!

    1. Cool! We love the same foods. I could eat them every day, though #1 I couldn't afford to and, #2 it wouldn't be at all healthy to do so. :)

I'm so sorry about Bill's grandmother. I am glad that you were able to find out some of the story, but so sorry that it happened in the first place. That is awfully sad.

How old were you when you got your license? I was 18, so I was later than most kids, too. David and one of my cousins did what they could to teach me to drive. It just would not have worked at all for either of my parents to try to teach me. My mama and I would have ended up arguing, because we were always arguing. My daddy would have probably taught me to drive like folks often teach kids how to swim...just throwing me in there.

You haven't missed out on our 19-Somethin' challenge at all. You're welcome to hop in anytime. The questions are all posted on the main challenge page. You're welcome to answer any or all of them any time. If you do decide to hop it, please add your blog link to the linky so that I can go read your posts, too. We'd love to have you!

Thanks for co-hosting the Friendly Fill-Ins with Ellen. We really enjoy it very much. :)

      Have a great day!
