Wednesday Hodgepodge - 8 June 2016

1. I read here a list of 13 things you should do in June. I'm paraphrasing a little but basically...

Go on a road trip with your best friend, pick fresh strawberries, host a garden party, take a morning run, treat yourself to a flower bouquet, spend a whole day hiking, discover a new coffee shop, try a new ice cream flavor, read at least one book, visit a Farmer's Market, make a swing for your home, and visit a new city.

Which thing on the list do you most want to do? Of the activities mentioned, which one holds the least appeal? How many on the list will you attempt in June? What's one thing you'd add to the list?

I would love to pick fresh strawberries. More to the point, I would love to eat said fresh strawberries. Lots of them.

A morning run would be the one with the least appeal, especially in this neighborhood.

I would love a road trip and I'm definitely game for trying a new ice cream flavor, reading a book, and going to the Farmer's Market. Even if we built a swing for the yard here, we wouldn't be able to use it. Our neighbors smoke like dragons.

I would add photographing lots of flowers, landscapes, and foggy mornings!

2. What's something you could do today to feel more peaceful?

At this particular moment, run away. My head is about to explode.

3. June 7th is National Chocolate Ice Cream Day. Are you a fan? Swiss mocha, rocky road, chocolate chocolate chip, peanut butter and chocolate, or a dish of plain chocolate...what's your pleasure?

I love just about any kind of chocolate ice cream there is. My all-time favorite is Moosetracks.

4. If you came with a warning what would it say?

Warning: Extremely volatile. Keep away from heat or flame. The trigger varies, though not usually by much.

5. What's the most interesting website you've visited in the last week?

I have visited many websites over the past week in my quest to learn more about strokes and how to prevent them. I can't choose the most interesting between those.

6. Spring, summer, autumn, winter...which season are you? Why?

I don't know which season I "am", but I was born in the middle of August. My favorite season, in regards to temperatures, is winter. Otherwise, my favorite season is spring because of all the wildflowers.

7. "You lose sight of things...and when you travel, everything balances out." ~Daranna Gidel

Would you agree with that sentiment? Explain why or why not.

I don't know whether I agree with it or not. I don't have the brain power for abstract thinking at this particular moment. Traveling would at least offer a change of scenery and that is often a very good thing.

8. Insert your own random thought here.

"Happiness is not the absence of problems; it's the ability to deal with them." Steve Maraboll

Right now I do not have that. There is too much happening at once. Menopause and strokes are not best buddies. It seems that "one more thing" is always waiting just around the corner to jump out at me. Nothing I do makes a difference on any of these things and I'm about ready to literally explode.

Thankfully, Heavenly Father has won these battles already and will be around to clean up the mess I leave behind in the wake of the explosion.

Please be sure to visit David's Hodgepodge post at: Random Thoughts and Observations. Thank you!

  1. Dropping in as your Hodgepodge neighbour. I hope your situation improves. Menopause will pass, although it will stretch your patience. Stroke recovery will also take time and patience but having faith will help.

    1. Thank you, Wendy, on all counts. I hope this menopause will hurry up and go away so that I can better take care of David during this recovery. We're on opposite ends of the temperature scale. He's freezing while I'm melting. If it weren't so uncomfortable, it would be funny. :)

Thank you for any prayers that you send up during this recovery period for David. Balance seems to be his biggest hurdle right now.

Thanks for stopping by and commenting. Have a blessed day!

  3. Good morning...so happy to see you're joining us for Hodgepodge! I can so relate to what you wrote about menopause. I've been having terrible hot flashes lately. Seem to hit me in the morning and in the evening. So far, they seem to be pretty manageable...praying that continues. Hope you can find some relief soon! Hang-in-there! I'm your newest follower!:)

    1. Thank you. I hope you find relief soon, too. They were replaced for awhile with cold flashes and I thought I was home free. Now, I'm having both. OY!

I hope that yours will continue to be manageable. It seems that even if I sat in a heater (for the cold flashes) or a freezer (for the hot flashes), it wouldn't do any good.

The noodle-brain bit is getting a bit old already, too. Have you gotten there yet?

      Have a blessed day.

  5. I do hope things get brighter for you. Menopause is a challenge on so many levels and a stroke is frightening. Give yourself some grace as you navigate through all these big things. Take care.

    1. Thank you, Joyce. How long is this menopause thing supposed to last? I had technical menopause in October 2011 (a year after my hysterectomy), but now I believe my ovaries are following suit with actual menopause.

Yes, a stroke is very scary and it has changed a lot around here. It has me feeling all upside down. It has changed David's priorities, too. He has a push to get everything in order and get the family stories available for the kids.

Thanks for the prayers. Have a blessed day!

  6. Hmmm. I've been there, done that with menopause. It's truly no fun. I understand that "one more thing." It's rough. May the Lord give you peace as you stay where He has you right now and walk with Him through the fire.

    1. After reading more of your blog, I know that you definitely understand about the "one more thing" bits. {{{Hugs}}} Thank you for the prayers. You're in my prayers, too.

How long did menopause last for you? It has been almost 6 years since the hysterectomy, but my ovaries are only now appearing to get the idea. The hot flashes have come back for a second pass, though not quite as severe as they were in the beginning right after the surgery.

Part of the after effects of David's strokes is feeling very, very cold. He was freezing the other day even though it was 76 degrees. He was freezing and I was about ready to jump into a freezer somewhere because I was melting!

      Have a blessed day!

  8. I had a few answers that match yours. Moose Tracks is my favorite ice cream, and winter is my favorite season.

I'm so sorry you're having such a rough time, I'll keep you in my daily prayers.

  9. Visiting from the Hodgepodge. Menopause was such a hard time emotionally. I spent the whole time crying at the drop of a hat. I'm praying the things stressing you ease up soon.
