Questions

Do you ever watch old TV shows or movies from your childhood or youth?

Yes. We've seen all of the Leave It To Beaver and Andy Griffith Show series several times over. We watch lots of old movies, too.

Xerxes, July 2014
Have you ever adopted a rescued animal?

We currently have two rescue kitties. We didn't adopt them from a shelter or anything (our local shelter is, unfortunately, a kill shelter and they kill kitties as soon as they get them). We found one in the mouth of a tom cat that was kit-napping it to probably kill. We named this one Xerxes. Another little gray one, that the girls have named Sparta, has parents out there, but was attacked by some insects or parasites and was nearly dead. We've gotten all of the "things" off of it and are trying to bottle feed it as well as giving it time with its mommy and daddy. It is getting more active and eating better now, so I think it will be okay.

Are you good at keeping track of paperwork and records?

For the most part, we do pretty good at this. The one set of records that keeps wandering off is our birth certificates. At $25 a pop for replacing them, they really need to stay put!

What would you like the Magic Wendell Fairy to poof with his wand, and turn into a treat for you? Any snack or sweet you would like. It doesn't have to do with carrots, or HE'D eat it!

Strawberry cheesecake sounds really good, as does a nice, cold shrimp cocktail. But, mostly the kind of treat that I'd love to have right now isn't the edible kind. I'd love a huge plot of land out in the middle of nowhere.

Tell me something interesting- please.

I don't know if you'll think it is interesting or not, but I found out something really cool about my 2nd great grandmother. You can read about that here: Delphia.

  1. I will stop channel surfing any time I run across The Andy Griffith, if only to see which episode it is.

    1. It is a great show. We really enjoy it. Lots of the old sitcoms are fun to watch. Those are the two we watch most often. :)

  2. The names of your kittens remind me of Ancient History, and I am wondering why these names are chosen. Xerxes looks lovely, holding a toy in his hands.

    1. Our youngest daughter called out different names and Xerxes is the name that he responded to. His eyes lit up when she said "Xerxes". Xerxes is a Bible person. Sparta was named Sparta because we have Xerxes already and that Xerxes defeated 300 Spartans in ancient history. Our Xerxes will dominate Sparta when he grows up (she says). She also says that it was either Sparta or Esther, and they are pretty sure that Sparta is a boy kitty.

  3. What an interesting story about Delphia as post mistress, I live about 20 miles from where the Hickory Flat post office was! Strawberry cheesecake sounds good right now, too!

    1. How cool that you live relatively near Hickory Flat! If I've ever been to Hickory Flat, I don't remember it. I don't remember ever hearing the name of Hickory Flat until I found the post master appointment data base. Do you know where it is in relation to Sharon Methodist Church? I've been there on several occasions and that is where Delphia and her husband are buried. I figure it must be somewhere near there. I was raised in Anderson County, SC, and lived there the first 39 years of my life, but haven't been in SC since the fall of 2004, when we moved out here to Texas.

Maybe we'll both get lucky soon and have strawberry cheesecake. :)

  4. The old TV shows are still wonderful - definitely better than some of the new ones they are making these days.

    1. That's for sure! The shows made these days are so loaded with vulgarities that they just aren't worth watching no matter how good the story line may be.

    1. Thank you. We're blessed to have them, too. We're facing a rapidly emptying nest and I think that Heavenly Father sent us these kitties to help ease us through this transitional part of life. We've got babies all over again. :)

    1. Thank you. He is growing so very fast, too! He's like a rocket around here, running all over the place at top speeds. He is a sweet baby with really sharp teeth and claws. :)
