Looking out my window.... If I were to look out my window right now, all I’d see is dark and rain. It is just after midnight as I write this.

As I ponder.... how lucky we have been compared to folks on the other side of town during the incessant flooding this area gets each year. Our yard gets totally swamped, but no water has gotten into our house so far.

What I’m learning...is that, no matter what I plan to do, someone will come along and cause those plans to be altered. As frustrating as that is, I still plan anyway and hope that someday things will go the way that I plan them. 

What I’m creating...I am still working on the afghan that I mentioned last week, but appear to have gotten really good at creating stacks of books waiting to be read!

What I’m reading....

I am reading a fiction book called Helen by Anita Mishook. It was sent to me to read for a review. It is an interesting book so far, about Jews, Nazis, and California in the late 1930s. I have at least 6 more in line after that to read for a review. One of them promises to be a very fun book. It is called Complete Guideto Bible Journaling: Creative Techniques to Express Your Faith by Joanne Fink and Regina Yoder…AND it comes with stickers and all sorts of cool artsy things.  I am really looking forward to getting to that one!

What I’m watching...

I’m not, at this moment, watching anything, really, other than David working on some reviews and tax forms for the girls and, of course, the words going up on my screen.

Otherwise, I am watching the spring wildflowers growing. I saw the first of this year’s bluebonnets on February 12^th. I saw the first one last year on February 26^th. The year before that, I think I saw the first one on St. Patrick’s Day. Who knows, maybe next year the first one will be here to bring in the New Year with the rest of us. haha

What I’m hearing...

We were excited to hear that the local girls’ basketball team had made it to the state championship. Unfortunately, they didn’t win the title. Maybe next time, girls!

A peek into my week...We took Petra (our grand-dogger) to the vet today to get her yearly shots and exam. Overall, she is fine, but we got the bad news of heart worms. She also has an ear infection, but that is very mild compared to the heart worms. We have monthly medicine to give her. Hopefully, she will be okay. She was NOT impressed with her exam at all, especially the under the tail routine.

A final thought... My final thought this week would be “Rain, rain, go away. Come again some other day”, but the plants need the rain, so I can’t complain about it too much. Still, a week of constant rain and limited photographic opportunities makes for a fidgety Suz! Too bad we can’t store the extra water somehow for the drought-y weeks of summer.

A Few Words About Battly

Battly

Battly had my attention from the get-go. She looked just like a little Shep, our German Shepherd/Chow mix that we had from 1996 until she crossed over Rainbow Bridge in 2008. Shep was not a puppy when we got her and was about 18 years old when she passed away.

Little Battly looked a lot like Shep to me, a mini-Shep, if you will. She was adorable and had the cutest little ears. After losing Shep, I didn't want to get attached to another dog and certainly didn't want to take another one on. But, this little girl was just the cutest thing, our Shep, in miniature.  One day our neighbors offered her and her sister Petra to our oldest daughter. She accepted them both and they've been our live-in grand-puppies ever since that day back in early 2013.  They were less than a year old when we got them.

It has been horribly hot here in this part of Texas, even inside the house with the air conditioner going. Our heat index one day was as high as 115 degrees according to the weather tracker.  And one day, according to David's calculations, it reached as high as 123 degrees (heat index). We had fans going and kept them watered.  We did our best to keep them cool.

It wasn't enough.

Our sweet little Battly passed away last night of heat exhaustion. She will be missed.
