RAMSEY, N.J. – August is National Immunization Awareness Month and Orivet Genetic Pet Care, a leading international personalized medicine and genetics testing organization, is using their new innovative mobile platforms and technology to encourage pet owners to get their pets vaccinated.
First started by the National Partnership for Immunization in 2001, National Immunization Awareness Month is an annual observance to highlight the importance of vaccination for people of all ages. The observance focuses on raising awareness about the need for immunizations and as a reminder for all to stay up to date with necessary immunizations.
As part of National Immunization Awareness Month, many veterinary professionals are encouraging pet owners to get their pets vaccinated. Additionally, new technology is making it easier to for pet parents to keep their pets current on vaccinations, and better protected against certain infectious diseases.
Orivet offers genetic DNA testing and risk profiling services for dogs and cats, which allows pet owners to learn more about their pet’s unique personality traits, health needs and inherent and environmental disease susceptibility. This information can be used by pet owners and a pet’s veterinarian to take a more preemptive and customized approach to caring for the long-term health of a dog or cat.
“With Orivet, pet owners can easily determine risks associated with various genetic conditions and traits, or identify the breed composition of their mixed-breed pet. However, our technology goes a step further by creating a personalized life plan specifically designed for each pet,” said Dr. Noam Pik, CEO of Orivet. “Our life plans create an easy-to-understand road map for pet owners, suggesting care options, disease screening priorities, vaccination checklists and more.”
Available Life Plans and DNA tests offered by Orivet include, full DNA disease screening, purebred profiles, breed composition for mixed-breed pets, DNA profiling and parentage confirmation, and more. The DNA can be collected at home with a simple, quick and painless cheek swab. Results of each test are made available to pet owners through Orivet’s innovative wellness dashboard, where pet owners can review their pet’s health data and access personalized life plans for their pet.
Every personalized life plan created by Orivet is tailored to meet the individual needs of a specific pet. Each life plan considers the specific traits, inherent and environmental risks of a pet, and assists pet owners, along with their veterinarian, to address a pet’s healthcare needs earlier and more effectively.
Pet owners interested in testing their pets can request a DNA collection kit for free at www.orivet.com or visit participating veterinary practices.

My cats are indoor only so I only get rabies vaccines because it is a law.
ReplyDeleteFor the most part, I think the rabies shots are all we've done. However, Petra had more than a rabies shot when we took her. I just don't remember what the other things were. Laynie keeps up with that.
DeleteAfter my own experiences with vaccines, I don't really trust that they are doing what they are supposed to be doing. My mama took me for the required shots when I was little. When I was pregnant with our first child, I found out that I was NOT immune to the measles that I had been vaccinated for as a child. Who know what bad things they shot into me, but it didn't protect me from the measles. This had very scary potential consequences. My obstetrician re-immunized me after our son was born. I have no clue if it worked on the second go-round or not.
Have a blessed day. :)
