Just Procrastination and Poetry
There are some changes that I want to make to the template of this blog, but I'm not always good with change, even when it is a change that I want. This one is also coupled with the fact that I cannot seem to change the header on the neat new template that I downloaded. I converted my test blog to the new template and, although it allows me to add the new header, it keeps the template header there as a background. I don't want that. Good grief. I'll fight with it a while longer, but I may just end up finding a different template that will allow me to use my own header.
Anyway, while I was busy being frustrated about that, I ran across some of my poems from last year. I decided that I would share one with all of you here. Please let me know what you think of it.
The Russian and the Nazarene
The strong Russian in the red vest stares me down with eyes so clear they're dizzying;
I can't stand.
Pulling me in, using my weakness against me, making me fight again a battle long ago won.
How long can I resist?
The Russian rules my waking thoughts, promising comfort within, beyond the sting;
I can't hold on.
Quenching the thirst of my heart while dehydrating my soul, stealing my sanity.
Should I give in?
NO!
The gentle Nazarene with the blood stained garments and scarred hands, eyes so full of love,
He stands for me.
Pulling me in, using my weakness to grow me, fighting the battles I'm too weak to win.
He resists for me.
The Nazarene guides me, delivers the comfort promised, and silences the sting,
He holds me.
Quenching my heart, restoring my soul, calming my mind, with living waters,
I surrender to Him.

PS The Russian in this writing has nothing really to do with a Russian, but a Russian product. It is about a battle to avoid a temptation that my family history is neck-deep in. As the stresses get more intense, so must the will to fight this temptation.
Anyway, while I was busy being frustrated about that, I ran across some of my poems from last year. I decided that I would share one with all of you here. Please let me know what you think of it.

Sunday's Obituary - Geneabloggers - Jimmy Ray Gunter
One of the Geneablogger daily blog themes for Sunday is Sunday’s Obituary, brought to us by Leslie Ann of Ancestors Live Here.
My daddy died in December. There was a disagreement between my family members and the funeral home and the funeral home did not post the obituary for my daddy in the local newspaper. So, for my first time participating in Sunday's Obituary, I will be creating one for my daddy.
Jimmy Ray Gunter, born 3 December 1941 to Andrew James and Evelyn Floree Fowler Gunter, died 9 December 2012 at his home in Starr, Anderson County, South Carolina. He died of a heart attack. He was 71 years old.
A native of South Carolina, he worked for many years at Owens-Corning Fiberglas until he was disabled by arthritis. As a young man, he worked for Dr. Pepper Bottling Company as well as for McDonald's, and was also a long-haul trucker at times. One winter he was stranded for six weeks in Oklahoma due to a snow storm. Christmas was just not the same with daddy gone that year.
In addition to his wife of 48 years, Madeline Spence Gunter of the home, he is also survived by his sister Charlotte Gunter Smith of Anderson County, South Carolina. He is also survived by his daughters, Suzanne Gunter McClendon of Wharton, Texas and Carolee Gunter Strickland of the home, and his sons Howard Ray Gunter of Fort Belvoir, Virginia and James Robert Gunter of Columbia, South Carolina.
He is also survived by eight grandchildren: Whitney, David, and Maggie McClendon of Texas, and Jared (and his wife Addy) McClendon of Maine, Haley Gunter Smith of Anderson County, South Carolina, Brandon Strickland of the home, Jovanna and Amanda Born and two great-grandchildren, Madyson Smith and Tammy Vavrecka.
He was pre-deceased by his parents and his older brother, Bobby Joe Gunter, who died in Germany while serving in the US Army. He was also greeted into Heaven by a younger sibling and several grandchildren that went on to be with the Lord before they breathed their first breath on this earth.
Instead of a traditional burial, daddy chose to be cremated. His ashes were scattered on the graves of his mama, daddy, and brother at the New Silverbrook Cemetery in Anderson, Anderson County, South Carolina.
Rest in peace, daddy. We love you.

Changes
I am working on some changes for PS Annie! I am merging several of my other blogs with PS Annie! so that I only have one to keep up with. So far, I have merged Heartstrings by Suzanne and it appears that the comments made the trip with the posts. Hopefully, One Thousand Gifts and Random Thoughts by Suzanne will be as lucky!
