Wednesday Hodgepodge

Please click the image above to join Joyce and the rest of us for a fun weekly adventure!

1. What pets did you have while growing up? Tell us a little something about them.

I wrote about my first puppy here.

The first kitty that I remember having, though there were probably others before her, was Calico. She was a beautiful tortoise shell kitty and so soft.  We lived in the woods then and something bit her, probably a spider. She didn’t survive it.

2. What is one thing you absolutely must accomplish today?

Reading my Bible. Everything kept me from finishing my devotion yesterday. I haven’t been sleeping very well and kept falling asleep while trying to read it. We had a ton of errands to run, so I couldn’t read it while we were out. By the time we got back, it was time to cook supper and get a few other things done.  I don’t like to miss my Bible time.

3. Where were you ten years ago? What were you doing there?

I was living here in Wharton, growing tumors and losing blood like a stuck pig. Little did I know at the time what was growing in me or what was about to happen to our family. But, I had also found my groove as a merchandiser and enjoyed doing that work very much. Thanks to those tumors and the subsequent problems they caused, I am now too weak to do that type of job anymore.

I was also photographing all of the things that were new to me, which was pretty much everything at that point in time. We’d only been here three years and there was so much to discover! I easily shot thousands of pictures a week. It was something that I enjoyed very much and still do.

4. September 26th is National Dumpling Day. Did you celebrate? Apple dumpling, xiao long bao (steamed Chinese dumpling), chicken and dumplings, pirogi, matzoh balls, or gnocchi...which dumpling on this list would be your dumpling of choice? Have you ever made homemade dumplings of any kind?

I love pierogi and gnocchi! As a child, I detested dumplings, chicken and dumplings included.  Now, I’ve learned to appreciate dumplings. I have never made homemade dumplings and have no clue really how to do it.

5. 'There are two kinds of adventurers: those who go truly hoping to find an adventure and those who go secretly hoping they don't.' William Trogdon

So which kind are you?

I am one that hopes to find an adventure if we’re out anywhere.  However, I am happy to stay home, too. :)

6. Insert your own random thought here.

Never give up the opportunity to take a nap or pass up a chance to go to the bathroom. It could be hours/days or 100 miles before you get another chance.

Have a blessed day, y’all!

  1. Your random thought is absolute wisdom. One should take every opportunity to potty, especially if they are out somewhere. As we get older we learn the importance of potty time. I love you, my Zing!

    1. Thanks, Katie. :) We don't always take our own advice, unfortunately, and that makes things a bit uncomfortable at times.

      Have a blessed week!

  3. Love the words of wisdom. That's exactly why we always asked kids if they needed to go before putting them in the car. as adults we sometimes forget to do this ourselves. I am sorry you have has such horrendous illness.

    1. Thanks, Trudy. :) That's what we did with our kids, too. I always go about 400 times before we leave the house. Still, I have to go again while we're out. It is very frustrating. Thank you regarding my health issues. It is just something that I have to figure out how to work around. Though the original tumors were removed, the effects of the battle are with me for the rest of my life.

      Have a blessed week. :)

    1. Thank you, Ellen. It has been a scary, upsetting, angering journey. But, so far I have survived it. It has left some very uncomfortable things that will only get worse over time, but I will learn to adjust.

      Have a blessed week. :)
