Guest Post: Drafting For Fantasy Football 2017

Drafting For Fantasy Football 2017

Fantasy football is, without a doubt, the most exciting fantasy sport in the world. Across the world people gather around their computers during the NFL's preseason in order to learn everything they can about the players and teams on the field. Their goal is simple, to get enough research done in order to draft the best possible fantasy football team. Some people play fantasy football for fun and love of the sport and others play to win some serious cash. Whether you are a serious player or a casual player it always helps to know what you are doing on draft day. Listed below is our top advice for your 2017 fantasy football draft.

Understand Your Scoring
There is nothing more satisfying than watching one of your fantasy players load up on points during a Sunday afternoon game. Points are good no matter what league you are in, how you come by those points is entirely different. Two leagues can have incredibly different scoring rules which means that an elite player in League A will be mediocre in League B. This is why you need to take time in order to research your scoring rules. The two most common deviations are PPR and Standard. PPR leagues give you an extra Point. Per. Reception. This improves the worth of players who get a lot of catches but not a ton of yards. Standard leagues are all about yardage and touchdowns. Know which league you are playing in before you draft.

Refer To The Mock Draft
Mock drafts are basically practice drafts that occur in the weeks and months leading up to the official draft for your fantasy league. Mock drafts allow you to get real time practice drafting your team. Drafting in real time with strangers around the world gives you the chance to see how other fantasy football minds are thinking. You'll also get the chance to improvise on the go if your key first or second round player gets selected before you get a chance to grab them.

Try Out New Leagues
Fantasy football comes in a variety of different packages. Most people play season long but even more are getting into the 'daily fantasy' experience. Daily fantasy sports are just condensed version of the fantasy football you've been playing all of your life. Instead of having one team all season long you draft a new one every week. Companies like DRAFT have come along in recent years in order to completely revolutionize the way gamers are playing fantasy football. DRAFT focuses on daily fantasy football with a new twist: rather than using salary cap rules players will draft their teams in the conventional fantasy draft format. It's an exciting new way to play and definitely worth checking out.

Be Willing to Experiment
If you've played fantasy football or just watched football for years then you've likely fallen for our next point of advice. When we play fantasy football we develop certain trends and habits. Some people always end up picking players from their favorite team. Other people always pick players with 'name value'. Discard those bad habits and instead focus on value. Be willing to experiment with who you are going to draft. Don't stick to your old conventions, especially if new possibilities open up to improve your team.
