Press Release: Safe Catch Tuna

Safe Catch Introduces First 100% Mercury Tested Canned Tuna
Expectant moms, children, all consumers can enjoy America’s favorite fish worry free

Mercury has always been a part of nature and present in trace quantities in all types of food. However, man-made mercury pollution has tripled mercury presence in oceans ultimately causing a wider variance of mercury levels in fish. Contradictory reports from the EPA, FDA and Consumer Reports range from warning about widely variable mercury levels in fish to warning pregnant and breast-feeding women that not eating seafood may be even riskier due to nutrients in fish that are vital to developing babies. Seafood has many health benefits but consumers need to know if the fish they are eating is as nutritious and as pure as possible. Safe Catch is establishing the first brand to stand for purity in seafood and is starting with the first 100% mercury tested canned tuna.

Until now, the seafood industry did not have a viable way to identify purity levels in every tuna. As a result, shoppers had to play Russian roulette when purchasing seafood. Safe Catch has solved that problem by developing the first technology solution to screen every single fish for purity. Safe Catch is the only brand to establish purity levels that are stricter than the Consumer Report’s ‘Low Mercury’ criteria limit and average set in 2014 for pregnant moms and children. Safe Catch is also the only canned tuna to be able to surpass the purity and Omega 3 criteria for “best seafood” as set by the Environmental Working Group.

In addition to being pure, one can of Safe Catch tuna has over 100% of the daily value of all 10 essential amino acids in addition to other amino acids, B vitamins, selenium, potassium and more. Unfortunately, nutrients and up to 80% of Omega 3s are often lost in most conventional tuna brands that precook tuna on racks allowing Omega 3s and nutrients to drain away during processing. These brands then rehydrate the tuna with pyrophosphates, GMO vegetable broth, soy, water or other fillers.

Safe Catch raw packs its tuna, sealing in all of the nutrients, and then cooks it in a proprietary process that yields an amazing taste. Safe Catch tuna is free of additives, non-GMO, BPA-free and sustainably caught. It is not packed in oil or water. Liquids in the can are natural juices from the tuna.

Numerous Fortune 500 companies, as well as academic organizations like Dartmouth University, have reviewed and verified the results of the Safe Catch technology used to test each tuna. Additionally, the Safe Catch technology and testing procedures have been verified by the California Attorney General in conjunction with the FDA, as well as the European Union through the ISA and the Canadian government through the CFIA.
