Book Review: Bossed Up

Bossed up is an enlightening book written by a young, black, female, entrepreneur. It appears that the author’s goal for this book was to reach young female members of minorities and encourage them to become the best that they could be, whatever direction God was sending them.

However, Bossed Up can be inspirational to males as well as females.  It can encourage old as well as young.  It can also inspire people of all races, colors, and creeds.  In short, no matter who you are, Bossed Up can be a useful tool for you.

The book is written in 100 short sections.  Each section can be read in less than five minutes.  Each section has Bible verses and Biblical points to underscore what the author seeks to convey.

We found the book to be inspiring.  Unlike so many other books we have read about changing one’s mindset about what is going on in one’s life, this author does not seek to blow her own horn or promote a particular business.   This author simply tells her readers what happened to her and how she overcame. This appears to be meant as encouragement and not self-promotion.

We whole-heartedly endorse this book for anyone who feels that they are facing difficult times in their life.

We were sent a review copy of this book in PDF without charge or obligation.  This in no way altered our opinion.  In the words of Anna Dean Pennington, our former U. S. History teacher back at Crescent High School,  “Eyes calls ‘em likes eyes sees ’em.”  We call them like we see them, too.

  1. Good point regarding inspiration. I find that if a book is intended to inspire a particular audience segment there will still be aspects that can inspire others. I also like a book that has snippets that can be read piecemeal rather than as an investment of dedicated time for a longer period. It's the ideal kind of book for just occasional casual reading much like a magazine or a short story collection. Sounds like a nice book to give someone as a gift.

    1. Thank you, Arlee. I'm rarely able to dedicate a long stretch of time to reading something. Short snippets usually work best for me, too. I think Bossed Up would make a nice gift for someone. I think that, even in the worst books, there is usually something that we can learn from them. Thankfully, this book doesn't fall into the "worst books" category. :)
