Wednesday Hodgepodge 4 January 2017

1. Share one favorite moment/memory from your Christmas holiday.

Our girls were home with us and we got to talk to Davey on Christmas morning.

2. What was the best thing you ate over the holidays? Was it homemade or store bought? If it was homemade did you make it?

I can’t narrow it down to just one thing because the whole meal is a package deal. Everything was homemade except for the pecan pie and cheesecake and yeast rolls. While I can make those, too, it is just easier not to right now. Well, okay, I didn’t grow the turkey either, but I did cook it.

3. What was one of the most beautiful things you saw over the holidays?

The most beautiful thing that I saw over the holidays, aside from our beautiful babies, was reindeer in a yard on Resident Street. They were so sparkly, like diamonds. Just beautiful! Here is a picture of them.

4. What does fresh start mean to you?

“Fresh start” to me means going forward and, ideally, not carrying any of the bad stuff along with you. You start over, a new beginning with no baggage.

5. On a scale of 1-10 (with 10 being very positive and 1 being not so great) how would you rate 2016 in terms of personal achievement and well-being? Explain.

If I could rate it a negative number, that is what 2016 would get. David had 3 strokes. The surviving them gets good marks, but the having them gets some pretty bad ones!  I got diagnosed with cataracts in both eyes. Unhappiness came to one daughter and financial woes to the other. Davey didn’t get to come home for a visit. Battly died. Bagel Bites and a host of other kitties died. The dark spots far outweighed the light spots in 2016. I am glad to see it behind us now.

6. Every January 1st since 1976 Lake Superior University has published a list of words they'd like to see banished from the Queen's English. Words may be banished due to misuse, overuse, or just general uselessness. Go here to read more about how the words were chosen or, if you're like me, to find out what in the world the word or phrase even means or the context in which it's used. There were quite a few on this year's list I'd never heard before.

Here's the 2017 list of banished words-

Which word on the list would you most like to see banished in 2017? What word or phrase would you add to the list?

I think that I would choose to banish “listicle”. It just doesn’t sound at all nice. 831…if you love someone, just say it! The numbers are meaningless. It takes words, Bert!

In regards to “get your dander up”, I like that phrase. It is a lot more polite than what could be used to express the same sentiment. It is a phrase that we use on occasion ourselves.

7. Large or small, light or deep, share with us one goal you have for the new year.

I want to get to a point of accepting how things might turn out for my vision. My biggest goal for the year is to gain new vision, a greater vision, and not just in the physical, eyes don’t fail me now, sense.

8. Insert your own random thought here.

    1. Thank you, Paula. While I realize it could have been so much worse, what did happen was plenty bad enough. Those strokes scared us all beyond belief.

Thank you for the prayers. I am praying for a better year for you, too. :)

    1. Thank you. I hope that 2017 is a wonderful year for you, too. :)

I had to look it up to find out what it meant. Can you believe folks are too lazy to write it out? Good grief. How much can one really love someone if they can't take the time to type out 8 letters? Or better yet, dial the phone they're texting on and just say it?

Thank you for stopping by, too. Have a blessed day!

  4. I think sometimes it is hard to take advantage of a fresh start because of baggage. It can be so hard to let go.

I agree, 2016 was really difficult for health and crises. I hope you can get assistance from a doctor or clinic for making payments for your procedure. I know all too well that medical costs are huge, as is insurance. But, this is something "fixable". Pursue it.

    Prayers.

    1. It is very hard to let go of some of the baggage. Maybe we hand it over to Heavenly Father, but it is what we're used to, so we grab it back to nurse it some more. We're used to it, so it is hard to think of it not being there.

Thank you for your prayers. Whatever is meant to be will happen. I plan to spend this next year like it isn't going to happen and get on with things, accepting the possibility of blindness, and seeing where that takes me. That way, if the surgery doesn't happen, I am not as disappointed because I will have accepted it already. AND, if the surgery is able to happen, then it is a happy bonus. That probably doesn't make sense to most people, but it is the way I have to look at it if I am going to get through this.

Thank you for the prayers and for stopping by and commenting. Have a blessed day!
