Wednesday Hodgepodge 21 December 2016

1. What's left to be done on your Christmas to-do list?

The tree isn’t up yet. It has always been Laynie’s decision when to put up the tree and always after her birthday. Her birthday was Sunday and we’re still waiting (as I write this on Tuesday evening). I also need to finish the rest of the ancestor ornaments that I am working on. I plan to do a post later about how I made them. One thing I am learning is that I don’t “glue”, to use the young folks’ way of talking these days. I tried gluing cording on these ornaments and ended up with it mostly glued to me. It preferred my fingers over the edges of the ornaments. So, I had to rethink how to do that bit of the project. At least the decoupage part of it went just fine.

2. The Hodgepodge lands on the first day of winter this year. What's your favorite thing about winter?

The cold weather, when we’re lucky enough to have it. We’ve had a few days of it and I love it!

3. In what area of your life are you immature? Feel free to elaborate or not.

I am a very insecure person. Some people see that as a sign of immaturity. I see it as a war wound from a life of too many battles, battles that I am very tired of fighting. Who wouldn’t be insecure when stabbed in the back repeatedly by those that claim to love you?

4. What was the most (or one of the most) important lessons you learned in 2016?

Keep searching. Don’t give up. The answer is out there somewhere. Just keep looking until you find it. It may not be what or where you expect that it should be.

5. It's Fried Shrimp Day...are you a fan? What's your favorite way to eat shrimp? Will there be shrimp somewhere in your holiday feastings?

Am I a fan of shrimp?! What a question! Haha I LOVE LOVE LOVE shrimp however I can get it. I love it fried. I love cocktail shrimp. I love shrimp scampi. I have never met a shrimp that I didn’t like, although I did pause a bit when one started looking back at me from my plate one day!

6. What sound lulls you to sleep?

None that I can think of. Generally, sounds keep me awake. When I was a teenager, it was the music coming from my radio. Today, I can’t sleep with music playing or the TV on or any noise like that.

7. What one word best describes your 2016?

Fast! Scary is one, too, as it was this year that David had the strokes. December 26, next Monday, will be the 7 month anniversary since David’s first stroke on May 26. So far, so good!

8. Insert your own random thought here.

I am looking forward to the New Year and hope that it will be far better than 2016 ever thought about being. I hope that somewhere in it holds a merciful doctor that will put me to sleep for the cataract surgery. So far, no luck on finding anything but sadists out there.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, y’all!

    1. Thank you. It would appear that we've now found a good one, or at least one that isn't sadistic. :)
      Love you, my Zing.

    1. Definitely! When we do blink, we miss some of the good stuff along the way. :)

  4. Hope you have a Merry Christmas. I still haven't looked at the actual surgery for cataracts, I am not encouraged about being awake for it. that seems odd.

    1. Thank you, Katie. I am sorry if my whining has caused you any worry. I didn't mean to do that at all. There is hope! Today, we found an ophthalmologist who will use twilight sleep for his anxious patients. That would be me! All I can suggest is that you ask your ophthalmologist lots of questions about this surgery, specifically if they are willing to use twilight or general anesthesia. The majority of the ones David called only use local anesthetic. This one specifically said monitored local and twilight as a back up (which, for me, is just going to have to be what they use from the get-go!)
I am praying for you and for our other blogging friends that are also on this cataract journey. Please let me know how things work out for you.
Also, here is a link for a site shared with me where you can go to read reviews about doctors in different specialties: https://www.healthgrades.com/ Best wishes to you.
      Merry Christmas!

  5. I hope your tree goes up soon. We have an artificial so I put it up right after Thanksgiving. If I am going to do all that work then I want to enjoy it for at least a month. I look forward to seeing your ancestor ornaments.

    1. Thank you. It is up now, and most of the way decorated. I finished the last of this years ancestor ornaments this morning (why rush if the tree wasn't going to be up?). Ours is an artificial tree, too, a little one. We've never had a live tree since we've been married. I never had one as a child growing up, either, but I think David's family almost always had live trees.

I agree with you. I'd like to enjoy it for awhile, too! We most always keep the tree up at least until January 6. One year, it was still up in August. haha

I hope to get a post up this weekend about how I made the ancestor ornaments. It was really easy!

      Merry Christmas!

  6. I am wishing you and David a very merry Christmas. I am so sorry you have been treated badly. Those are the people we need to eliminate from our lives. God Bless you my friend!!

    1. Thank you, Paula. I agree with you about needing to eliminate some folks from our lives, but it isn't so easy when one of those "somebodies" is a parent. You move a thousand miles away, but the knife still cuts deep.

May Our Heavenly Father bless you, too, my friend, with a beautiful and Merry Christmas and the best New Year ever. :)
