Currently...A Life List

Looking out my window....It has been raining for a couple of days here, so what I see out there is a lot of water. The yards around are swampy and very slippery.

As I ponder....I am pondering aka worrying about how things will go for David with this CROW boot. It is different from walking in the contact cast, which was different from regular walking. He has been a falling risk especially since the strokes and these things just put him even more at risk until he gets used to walking in them. As we understand it, this boot is going to be his lifetime companion.

What I am learning...I am learning how to decoupage. We'll see how that goes!

What I am creating...I am creating Christmas ornaments with photos of our family now and our ancestors, too. So far I have photos together for 16 of them. Hopefully I will remember to photograph the process as I create them.

What I am reading....I am still reading Uninvited. Yes, I am a very slow reader. There are just too many other things going on these days.

What I am watching...At the moment, I am watching David toss and turn in his sleep. These foot appointments take a lot out of him.

What I am hearing...I am hearing a heater and the air condition operating in unison. The A/C has to be on to filter out the neighbors' smoke and the heater because, well, we finally got some decently cool temperatures here on the Gulf Coast.

What's on my camera...
Last cast removal!

More about this one tomorrow!

Buckle on CROW boot.

Compliments of the neighbors' dogs...AGAIN!

What's happening in the kitchen...There's nothing special happening in the kitchen this week.  On Saturday (Dec. 3rd) I baked a cake for my daddy's birthday. He would have been 75 years old.

A quote I want to share... "He who has not Christmas in his heart will never find it under a tree." ~Roy L. Smith

Happenings in my backyard...There is a lot of squishiness going on back there due to all the rain.

A peek into my week...Thankfully, the rest of the week just consists of taking our daughter back and forth to work and maybe a trip to get tires for Zoomie and groceries.

A final thought...I hope that December is a great month for all of you, filled with hope, happiness, health, and home and family.

To paraphrase a person that I heard on television years ago that said, "Smoke 'em while you've got 'em"…my message to you is, "Hug 'em while you've got 'em!" Make sure those you love know that you love them. You never know when you won't be able to hug them anymore. Never pass up the opportunity.

    1. Thanks. :)

I sure wish Blogger would quit messing with the formatting of my posts.

  2. I wore a CROW boot for months after I broke my leg and ankle. Sucked! Was happy to see that thing go. Why does David have to wear one? I could probably go back and find a post about it on here, huh! Decoupage is fun. I haven't done any for years. Your Christmas ornaments sound lovely. Can't wait to see a picture. I'[m a pretty slow reader myself. I usually fall asleep. (Or get bored). Loved your quote. It is so true! Yet so many keep looking under the tree. Sorry your yard is so squishy but rain is a good thing. I totally agree with 'hug them while you have them'. So true, you never know!

    1. David has diabetes and has been fighting foot ulcers for years. He also has Charcot foot, a complication of his diabetes. This can also happen otherwise. He was in a contact cast for about 2 months to deal with the pressure ulcers. They put him in a CROW boot after the ulcer healed(PTL!) to help combat the pressure issues and hopefully avoid him getting another ulcer.

I've never done decoupage before. It looks like a fun craft, so I hope this works out okay. David says his mama used to decoupage when he was younger. She's done all sorts of crafts over the years.

Rain is a good thing, but it tends to get out of hand around here sometimes. As I understand it, though, a rainy winter makes for a beautiful wildflower display in the spring. I sure hope so!

  3. That was sweet of you to make a cake in memory of your Dad's birthday.

    1. Thank you. I think that he would have liked it. He had a sweet tooth like you wouldn't believe! He was always bringing cookies, cakes, Popsicles, ice cream, all sorts of sweets for the kids before we moved out here to Texas. Funny thing is, none of them seem to have inherited his sweet tooth. Maybe it comes with age. :)
