Wednesday Hodgepodge

1. Give us three rhyming words that say something about your Thanksgiving holiday (or your most recent holiday gathering if you didn't celebrate Thanksgiving).

Great! Wait! Weight!

2. When did you last say, 'the more the merrier'? Did you mean it?

I can't remember the last time I said it, but I am sure that I meant it in the context that I used it.

3. What's one piece of advice you'd give someone who is your same age?

The advice that I would give, but can't seem to take on board myself, is to not worry about what other folks think of you. It only matters was Heavenly Father thinks of you in the end.

4. You're ordering a veggie plate, what four veggies are on it?

Broccoli, carrots, onions, zucchini or yellow squash would be on my veggie plate.

5. Shop till you drop! Did you? Have you ever? Will you between now and Christmas?

Any shopping that I do is until I drop. I walk into the store tired already.

In the context that this question is likely meant, no, not any more. When I was younger, I loved to go shopping. I'd just rather not deal with stores and crowds these days.

We are on a very limited income. Shopping until I drop, as in all day shopping/spending, just isn't going to happen. Not between now and Christmas. Not between now and the grave. Period.

6. What's your favorite chair in your house, and why is it a favorite?

I do not have a favorite chair in this house.  I am not a tall or even average height person.  Everything is too tall to be comfortable for me.  The one that I use the most is my computer chair.

7. Share an early memory of faith, religion, or spirituality.

Daddy, circa 1966
One of my earliest religious memories is of being at Bible School at Marshall Memorial Methodist Church in Anderson, South Carolina. We painted ceramic bookends. Mine had a little dog with a picket fence behind it. I can still remember the smell of the paint and the ceramic. The last time I saw those bookends they were on a shelf with my baby picture in my parents' living room. That was in the mobile home that got blown away by a tornado while my daddy was in it.

8. Insert your own random thought here.

Sometimes a girl just has to tell it like it is and let the mud slide where it will. Today was one of those days. I told the neighbor what would happen to her pack of dogs if they made my husband fall and what I thought of her adding to my suffering with the non-stop cigarette smoking of the adults in her household, how we can't even enjoy our own yard because of their smoke. She told me that she has a right to smoke. I told her that my right to breathe trumps her right to pollute the air. This is one girl that has had enough of other people exercising their "rights" regardless of the damage being done to others!

    1. As wild as it is getting out there, I am perfectly fine with that, too!

  2. Sad that with all the knowledge we have now about second-hand smoke people still smoke!

    1. I agree completely! I don't get the thrill of it. I don't understand it. I know after they start, it is an addiction, but I don't know what drives them to start. I have known people with double pneumonia to be painting, inhaling those fumes, and smoking, too. I just don't get it. If they want to die, why not just jump in front of a bus, jump off a bridge, sever an artery or something, and leave other folks' health out of it?

  3. I laughed at your three rhyming words. So true!! Your answer to #5 fits me too. I only shop for the three grands. And they all get the same things. A Visa gift card to spend how they wish. Have a good week!

    1. Thanks! They just popped into my head as soon as I saw the prompt. haha

I bet the grand-babies enjoy that gift card present. :) Does someone take a picture of them with what they bought to share with you? Whenever I was little, if someone gave me something like a dress, Mama would take my picture or have made photo made with me wearing the dress. I think it is a fun way of remembering.

  4. I do hope you can find peace with your neighbors. That sounds so difficult and stressful. Perhaps a move is in their future? I'm hoping!

    1. Yes, it is a very stressful situation. My blood pressure has been through the roof over the last week especially. I wish they would move. They are highly unlikely to move any time soon as they just bought this house a year or so ago and have been working on remodeling it. Moving isn't an option for us unless a miracle happens.

So that this doesn't seem a total gripe-fest, one good neighbor thing that they do is mow our front yard for us. Seeing as how they keep me from being able to do it with their smoking, I think it is a good thing that they do it for me and I do appreciate that much.

  5. good luck with your neighbor! you should phone animal control and see if they can make her control her dogs

    1. Thank you. We sure need it! Calling animal control does no good. He knows that they are over the limit of allowed number of dogs. In this city, one is allowed only 4 dogs or cats or combination thereof. They have at least 6 dogs and I think even more than that. When the animal control officer does pick up any of their dogs, he just takes them back to their house, bypassing what he is supposed to be doing, which is taking them to the shelter for the owners to pay the fines and retrieve them.

  6. Today I ran some errands and then stopped at the Walmart. When I got home I felt as if I had shopped til I dropped.

    1. Errand running coupled with Walmart would make for a very exhausting day! But, I hope that you had fun shopping. :)

  8. I like your rhyme. Yum on the veggie plate but hold the onions! So sorry to hear about the issues with your neighbor. I hope she takes some of your words to heart and thinks about how her choices are affecting you.

    1. Thanks, Debby. :)
I love onions and, thankfully, David doesn't mind onion and garlic breath. haha

It would be nice if she would, but she told me in no uncertain terms that she had no intention of stopping. She said that she did it once for three months. I told her if you did it once, you can do it again. She said her kids beg her to stop. She said that she can't do it for them, that it has to be for her, which I understand in one sense, but overall, it seems a very selfish and un-motherly attitude. There are lots of things mothers may not want to do but do because it is for the good of the child. In my opinion, we are supposed to put the needs of our children above our own. I can't see that she "needs" to smoke. She may be addicted, sure, but it isn't a true "need". It is a selfish addition. I told her straight up that very rarely do selfish people consider the needs of other people. I don't think that she was impressed by that comment, but it is the truth. If they considered the needs of other people (like the need to breathe relatively safe air!), they wouldn't be being selfish. If she doesn't care about her own children, people she brought into this world, she sure isn't going to be concerned about an old lady neighbor.

One thing that I asked her was, "If you were to see someone stabbing your child in the chest, would you stop them?" She said, "Yes, I would." Then I said, "That is exactly what you're doing each time you smoke. You're doing it to your own babies and to me."

Who knows where this will end up, but I feel it escalating. I am getting angrier and angrier each struggled breath I take.

Thanks for stopping by and commenting. Have a blessed weekend!
