I first learned about Jennifer Nichole Wells' Halloween Challenge through Ellen at 15 and Meowing. Please click here to learn more about this challenge.

I love finding old surprises, especially out in the middle of nowhere. This is an old schoolhouse. Isn't it great? I can see so much potential in it. I hope that it finds new caretakers before it meets the fate of many other old buildings around here.

When we come upon cool old places that are for sale and obviously unoccupied, I love to look in the windows and all around the place. I would not enter a place without permission (well, okay, most of the time I wouldn't! Never say never.)   This place was no different. I had to get a peek inside however I could get it.

I wasn't quite tall enough to see really well into the windows and there wasn't much available for climbing on, so I decided to see what I could see through the glass on the front door.  I had gotten a creepy feeling just as I'd crossed over the little bridge into the fenced area of the yard.  I wanted to look, so I tried to shrug off the goosebumps I was getting.  I approached the door and saw that it was open just a little bit. There was the realtor's chain thing keeping it from opening, but I wasn't trying to open it anyway.  I wanted to look through the opening in the door, but I got the distinct feeling that if I did that, I wouldn't have any eyeballs left. A spooky was going to poke 'em out.  So, I decided maybe that this wasn't the place for us and I walked as quickly as I could off of the little porch and back to our little Zoomie and we left.

It wouldn't make sense to try to buy and restore a place that was already spooking me. We've ridden by it twice since that day. On the first of those last two visits, we saw that the realtor sign (that is pixelated out of the picture above), was gone and that people were doing work on the place. When we went by this last time, more work had been done. So, I guess it has found someone to love it, someone that didn't feel the spookies that I felt that day.

I would love to know what happened down there to leave behind such a creepy, haunted feeling!

  1. Some people pick up on those vibes more than others.

  2. It is a weird feeling that is hard to explain. We both felt it in the walk in closet in our second house. I knew most of the history of the house but still had that feeling.
