Wednesday Hodgepodge - 28 September 2016

For more information about this fun weekly meme, click here.

1. Have you ever been to and/or lived near the desert? What did you think? Travel and Leisure lists the 'coolest' American desert towns as-

Palm Springs CA, Virgina City NE, Bend OR, Winslow AZ, Marfa TX, Grand Junction CO, Silver City NM, Moab UT, Taos NM, Yakima WA, Borrego Springs CA, Terlingua TX, and St. George UT, and Tubac AZ

Have you been to any of these? Would you like to visit a desert town? Which on the list would you most like to see?

I have never been to any of the places listed above. I think that it might be interesting to visit a desert town. I think, out of those listed, I would want to visit Terlingua. For one thing, it has an interesting name, and second, we watched a show about a tiny house there. Land is way cheap in that area, too. I am talking about 20+ acres for less than $10,000!

It is about 620 miles and about 10 hours to Terlingua, TX, and Marfa is approximately 568 miles and 9 hours away from here. I have been to San Antonio, Texas, which I suppose put me a little closer to these two places, but I am not sure. I have never been to or really near a desert to my knowledge. The closest that I have been to anything like it was back home in South Carolina when the drought was so bad that the ground at the cemetery was cracking open. Hartwell Lake pretty well dried up, too. It has gotten to that point here in Wharton County, TX, as well.

2. What's a plan or project you've deserted in the past year?

Pretty much any of them that I have started! I am easily distracted at this point in my life. Something shinier comes along and I forget what I was doing in the first place. And, I don't remember to go back to it.

3. Desert-dessert? Share two or three words you find yourself having to think twice about when it comes to spelling.

All of them these days! I am having an awful time remembering how to spell things. Desert/dessert is one. Successful is another. Embarrassed gets me just about every time I have to use it. I can never remember if it is double r and double s or just double s.

4. High and dry, like watching paint dry, dry run, dry as dust, not a dry eye in the house...which phrase can you relate to currently? Explain.

Not a dry eye in the house. Everything makes me cry at this point in my life. There are things that I read that I want to share with David and I try to read them. Boom, the water works start. Sometimes I just have him come over here to read it on my screen because I know I won't get through it without bawling my eyes out, especially if it has anything to do with the Marine Corps or sick children.

5. How often do you frequent the dry cleaners? Starch or no starch?

We do not make use of dry cleaners. All of our clothes, such as they are, can be machine washed and dried.

6. What's a food or beverage you enjoy that's named for a place?

A food that I totally love that is named for a place is Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte…Black Forest Cake! It is YUMMY!

7. Do you need solitude?

I need quiet, but I don't necessarily need to be alone.  I don't like being alone, but I can't focus or think when there is a lot of noise.

8. Insert your own random thought here.

Organizing a hard drive takes forever when you do it on the other end. Always organize as you go to save yourself a big headache later on!

  1. "distracted by shining things"...LOL...I'm the same way; since retiring I have so many projects started that I'm not getting much completed. Black Forest Cake is so yummy, it's one of my husband's favorites, we have a Germany bakery here that makes a great slice. Have a good week!
    Cheers!

    1. The biggest distractor for me these days is Newspapers.com. I am having a blast reading the old newspapers, so not much else is getting done.

What kinds of projects have you started?

How lucky you are to live near a bakery that makes Black Forest Cake! I think I'd be a regular there. :)

Thanks for stopping by and commenting. Have a blessed week!

    1. Thank you. I figure there are blue-eyed graphics everywhere. It was about time for a brown-eyed one, to match me and Davey. :)

I love you, too. Zing! Zing!

  4. Nice to learn more about you. The trouble with words like desert/dessert is that spell check doesn't catch them.

    1. Thank you.
Very true and that makes things difficult for those of us that often mix up words. We're spelling a word correctly, just not the word that we're intending to spell. It can be very frustrating.

      Have a wonderful day!

  5. I love how you do this. Will you be doing another meme? Please keep me posted on that and I will put it on the calendar so I can join.

I never used to cry. I saw it as a weakness in myself. At this point in my life, I cry. It is a release for me. My mantra has always been, "That which does not kill me makes me stronger." ~ Friedrich Nietzsche~

Crying does not make me weak; it makes me human. Another thing we have in common, my friend. Your package will be mailed Thursday or Friday. Hugs!

    1. Thank you, Annie. :) I hope to do another challenge like our 19-Somethin' challenge next September (here's hoping I don't forget!). I am trying to figure out what song to use for the next one. I will keep you posted. :)

I don't know that I ever thought of crying as weak, but it makes me mad sometimes when I do it, especially if I'm in an argument and start crying. OY! Mostly when I cry these days, there's just more crying behind it. I'm sorry that things are making you cry, too, Annie. {{{Hugs}}} I like that quote.

I'm glad that you know crying doesn't mean or make you weak. I think it takes a strong person to cry.

      Thank you. I will let you know when it arrives. That is so sweet of you. Have a wonderful day! {{{Hugs}}}

  6. Black Forest gateau is yummy. It was very fashionable here for a while but not so much recently. Cute graphic. I can tear up at the slightest thing too. Thanks for stopping by. Enjoy the rest of the week.

    1. I would eat Black Forest cake every year for my birthday, or most birthdays, if everyone else liked it. Usually, I just end up making a regular chocolate cake. Yes, it is yummy!

Thank you. I decided to risk making my own this time. I did a search for crying graphics, but the link to the one that I wanted to use didn't actually go to the photo that was displayed. It was a cute little girl bawling her eyes out, but the link took me to an adult woman looking a little weepy. Oh well.

I'm sorry that you have the crying issues, too. This time of life promises to be such a fun adventure, doesn't it?

You're welcome and thank you for stopping by here, too. Have a wonderful day!
