The fill-in-the-blanks:
1. The last movie I saw at the theater was ______________________________.
2. The title of my autobiography would be ______________________________.
3. I would love to learn _____________________________________________.
4. I am glad that I learned ____________, because _______________________.

My responses:

1. The last movie that I saw in the theater was The Lion King 3D. It was really cool! At one point when Zazu flew, it was like he was right in front of me!

2. The title of my autobiography would be What Now?

3. I would love to learn all of the ins and outs of genealogy and be able to help others to write the stories of their family, for their family. I would love to learn how to be a perfect photographer, but that would take more than learning. That would take overcoming visual disorders and shaky hands. I would love to learn a way to make money from home so things aren't always a struggle.

4. I am glad that I learned to pray, because I have had to make much use of it over the course of my life.  I am also glad that I learned to read because I have learned about all sorts of interesting things and, with my imagination, visited faraway places and made wonderful friends with the characters in the books (specifically, The Blossom Street Series by Debbie Macomber - great books!).

  1. Reading is so essential, it's almost like breathing, isn't it? As is prayer. My life would have sent me over the edge by now if i couldn't pray.

    1. Yes, exactly! I can't imagine not being able to read and it confuses me that there are still people in the US that are unable to read, but have made it all the way through school. I just can't grasp that.

Prayer is wonderful. It gives us a place to put our focus. We may be praying about things that are bothering us, but it helps that we're sharing those things with Him, Someone that we know can fix it if He so chooses.

  2. Thank you for participating in the fill-ins, great answers. Learning to read is so important, it is so sad that some can't. I have been trying to figure out a way to make money from home for years, it is frustrating. Praying is also something everyone should know how to do. Have a great weekend!

    1. Thank you, Ellen, for co-hosting the fill-ins with Annie. You two offer a fun writing opportunity each Friday.

Yes, it is very frustrating trying to figure out a job to do from home. We've read lots of things about it and have tried some of the things suggested. But, it seems no matter what we do, its only going to work for other people and not us. I don't know why that is.

As a little girl, I remember saying the "Now I lay me down to sleep" prayer, but I do not remember either of our parents praying with us. I figure that they must have early on for us to have learned that prayer. Did you parents pray with you?

  3. Learning to pray is probably the most important thing one can learn. It is one course you will never see in a public school.

    1. I would agree that it is the most important thing we can learn. As for public schools, as long as there are teachers like Mrs. Johnson, there will be prayer and devotions in school. I love that she was ultra-professional, but on this one thing, she bucked the system. It was great. We were blessed to have teachers like her. :)

  4. Great answers! Mom likes the Hallmark Channel on TV because they do a lot of the Debbie Macomber books as movies. Praying is an important part of Mom's day too.

    1. The Hallmark Channel was one that we enjoyed on occasion back when we had cable/satellite. I think that we watched one of the Debbie Macomber movies, but at this point, I don't remember which one it would have been.

I think if more folks turned to prayer, this world would be a much nicer place.

  5. Oh yes! Prayer and reading are definitely essential for life and well-being! :) It would be cool to learn genealogy and put together family tree information. Someone in our family is doing that, one of these days I'd like to see what they have put together so far! :) Have a great weekend! :)

    1. It is great that someone in your family is doing it. There are things that you need to do that are specific for your own family unit, questions that your kids will have later that, maybe, you or your husband are the only ones that can completely answer, like, "How did you two meet?" "Tell me about the proposal." There will be many questions later on that they don't realize they want an answer to until after you and your husband are gone. Answer them now, it is that important. There are many websites out there with lists of questions for parents or grandparents to answer in journals for their offspring and grandchildren. One of the best lists, though, is one you make yourself. What questions have YOU had for people after it is too late to ask them? Our blogs can be a great place to work this project, but it is good on a private level, too. We just need to be sure to do it before it is too late.

  6. I heard that movie was pretty cool! I love your book title. From what you've shared with us it sounds just about right! Life does tend to be a lot like that. :-) I agree with you about finding ways to make money at home. I really have no desire to do office work again if I can avoid it. Office politics drive me crazy! You chose the two very best things to learn of all. We have learned so much by reading! I wish I had a list of all the books I've read over the years! Prayer... I know it's real and it's the one thing I can turn to that will give me the strength to face what each day brings!

    1. One thing I learned a few years back that I wish I had known years ago is about an annotated bibliography. It is a list of all the books you have read, just like a bibliography in a book. You list things like title, author's name, ISBN, publisher, etc. Then you add a brief summary of the book and your thoughts. If you have quotes from the book you would like to remember, you write them in it along with the page number they appear on.

It is never too late to start. I know I have thought of things and wonder where I read them. Like I said, I wish I had known about this years ago.

    2. Lion King 3D was a pretty cool movie. Thank you. I think it is just about right for a book title. An alternate title could also be, "Enough Already!" or, for especially frustrating times, "Please Stop the World From Spinning: I Want to Jump Off!"

Regarding working from home, have you ever taken an inventory of your talents to see what is marketable? Sometimes we have to think outside the box on this. I am hung up on this point in the process because I do not know what my talents are. There are things that I like to do and do okay with, but nothing that I excel at. What are your talents? What do you absolutely love to do?

David has a great suggestion for you about the list of books you've read. Maybe you can't remember all that you've read in the past, but you could start where you're at right now to create this list.

Prayer is wonderful. It helps us to have a sense of direction. No matter what is going on (or not going on), we know we can turn to Him.

  7. I can't even imagine not reading...life wouldn't seem complete! The Lion King 3D must be amazing!

    1. I agree. Life would be just too weird if I didn't know how to read.

It was a great movie and really neat seeing the things come off the screen. They didn't really, of course, but it sure seemed like Zazu was sitting on the back of the chair in front of me once he left the screen. :)

  8. I bet my kids would love Lion King in 3D. It certainly is a different theatre experience! I think the last 3D I saw was the Star Wars film. A cousin of mine did some family research, but I'd love to be able to go even deeper. It's fascinating knowing where you come from.. especially since I don't know my dad's side. That would be a nice blank to fill one day.

    1. I think that they would really enjoy it. I've never had much luck with the whole 3D experience in the past, but this time was a way different experience for me. It was almost like I could have touched Zazu if I had wanted to. :)

That "one day" really needs to be now. I can't stress it enough. We all tend to put things off until "some day", and, oftentimes, that some day never comes. None of us knows what tomorrow will bring. My father-in-law didn't expect to die at 52 years of age. My sister-in-law didn't expected to be hit by a car and killed at age 30. Little Patti(gunshot) and Tina(leukemia) and Nancy(run over) didn't expect to die at ages 11, 10, and 7 respectively. If we don't write or record these things somehow NOW, what tomorrow will bring is no longer answerable questions for our children and grandchildren. All of our stories are important. The little things ARE the big things. It all will mean the world to someone some day, but they will not be able to get that information if it hasn't been written/recorded somewhere for them.

It is so much more than when they were born and when they died. What was their favorite food, color, book, etc? How did that couple meet? What were their jobs? Where did they live? Were they in military service, wars? What big things happened during their lives? All sorts of things that make for interesting reading that connects us to those that brought us into being. We are each only one person, but oh so many people were brought together to create us. Each one of them has a story. It is up to us to find them and bring them forward for the next generation to know.

Yes, I am a do-it-now genealogy pusher. I can't help it. This is my passion. :)

      Have a blessed day!

    2. PS. I hope that I didn't come across as being rude or pushy. It is just something I am very passionate about. I was just trying to share what is on my heart and information, too.

  9. Such heartfelt answers. I am at a loss with ancestry, because my family is both fragmented and dysfunctional. I will never know most of it. Sad. Roots are important, but not to my "family".
I will send you a little pkg this week. *wink*
Thank you for joining us for the Fill-Ins. Hugs!

    1. Thank you, Annie, and also thank you for co-hosting the fill-ins with Ellen. I enjoy them very much. :)

I am sorry that your family is broken and dysfunctional, too. {{{Hugs}}} However, if you want to work on your ancestry, it can still be done. It is just a more difficult journey when we have no one from our families to get the answers from. We have to dig deeper than those that have people and information readily available to them.

If you want to give it a try, e-mail me. Maybe I can help. I have had to start from nothing, after the death of all of my grandparents to rebuild my family history information because the compiled books were in the storage building that was stolen. It can be done and I'd love to try to help you!

Thank you in advance of the pkg. :)

      Have a blessed day!
