Here are the statements with the blanks:

1. My nickname is _________________________.
2. The first thing I ever won was _________________________.
3. I have never been to _________________.
4. Next year ___________ .

Here are my answers:

1. My nickname is _________________________.

My newest nickname is apparently "Child-bride", which I think is cute. Some of my uncles used to call me "Suzie-Q". My late father-in-law called me "Sue-d-Lou". My best friend and I call each other "Sis". My granny called me "bottly butt". I don't know what that meant exactly or if I even spelled it correctly, but that is how it always sounded to me. She didn't know that it hurt my feelings. Mean boys at school always called me "full back" because of the prominence of my behind. They did not know that it stuck out the way that it did due to scoliosis. It wouldn't have made a difference, though. They would have done it anyway. My best friend in high school and I were called "Mutt and Jeff", but I can't remember who was which one. I was whoever was the shorter of the pair. (David says that "Jeff" is the shorter of the two).  I also had the nickname "Smurf" and "Smurfette" after David and I started dating but, for the most part, only David and a friend of ours named David called me that. I was also called "The Weird Chic" in high school.

2. The first thing I ever won was _________________________.

The first thing that I remember winning was a Bible. I won it through a contest in the Anderson Independent-Mail newspaper.

3. I have never been to _________________.

Well, this would be a tremendously long list if I listed all of them. I've never been anywhere, really. So I'll pick the most prominent place in our family history that I have not been to. I have never been to Ireland.

4. Next year ___________ .

Next year will be 2017 and hopefully the year that we get to see Davey again if we can't see him sooner.

  1. Thank you for participating in the fill-ins, I enjoyed your answers except I am sorry you have had so many bad nicknames. I had some too, but I choose to forget them and the ignorant people from school.
I hope you get too see Davey sooner than next year, that must be so hard.

    1. Thank you for co-hosting the fill-ins, Ellen. I enjoy it. :)

It's okay. I guess it is all just a part of growing up around other humans. Another one that I just remembered was "four eyes!" because I wore glasses. I imagine at this point, those teasers are probably wearing glasses, too. Mama always told me to just ignore them. I was never able to do that. I'm glad that you were able to forget the bad names and the ignorant people from school.

Thank you. Yes, it is very hard going so long without seeing Davey. We have contact via FB Messenger, but having him home would be even better.

Thanks for stopping by and commenting. Have a blessed weekend!

  2. When people were in her way or wasting time, My Gram used to say they were "bottle-assing around". I suspect your Granny meant that, too. It is an old southern expression for wasting time. Like Gram, I am sure she meant no harm.

Your answers are always so heartfelt. I love that and thank you for sharing, my friend.

    1. Interesting. I've never heard that expression. I know some folks called me "slow poke" sometimes so maybe that is what Granny meant. Some members of my family weren't known for having much patience. :)

Thank you, Annie, for your comments and for co-hosting the fill-ins. I enjoy them very much. Have a blessed weekend!

  5. Young people can be the most compassionate or the most cruel, depending on how they are raised and what's expected of them.

Hope you get to see Davey much sooner than next year!

    1. I was always pretty good at finding the mean ones, but sometimes a good one snuck in. :)

Thank you. Have a wonderful weekend!

  6. Kids can be cruel - I had a few not-so-nice nicknames when I was in elementary - sorry you had to deal with that as well. I love your nickname 'Child-Bride'! :)

How cool the first thing you ever won was a Bible - it's definitely something you'll never forget! :)

I would absolutely LOVE to go to Ireland.

Fingers crossed you get to see Davey *before* next year. :)

    1. I was always pretty good at finding the mean ones, but sometimes a good one slipped in. I'm sorry you had stinkers to deal with, too. "Child-bride" is starting to grow on me. :)

I think you're right that I'll never forget winning that Bible.

Don't you think that Ireland would be a great photo opportunity? :)

Thank you. We hope we see him before then, too.

I read your post about how you and your siblings got your names. I wanted to comment on it, but could not find the comment box. I think it was a great post. My mama gave birth to 4 children in just under 3 years time. I was 2 yrs 11 months old when my little sister was born. Between me and my sister, our twin brothers were born. My mama was 21 yrs old and my daddy was 23 when I was born. Both of my parents were middle children. My daddy had an older brother and a younger sister and a late-term miscarried younger sibling. My mama had 2 older brothers, 2 older sisters, and 2 younger sisters, one of which died at about 18 months of age. So, I am the firstborn of two middle kids. It made for some interesting moments, most of them due to my sassyness and feeling like I acted older than my parents did at times. :)

      Have a blessed weekend.

  7. Suzanne, Susie-Q is a cute nickname. My SIL's name is Susan and we call her Susie-Q sometimes. 2017 will be here before we know what happens, but I know you can't wait to see Davey. :)

    1. Thanks, Cathy. I like it, too. I can hear my Uncle Earl laugh every time I think of that nickname. :) My Papa Gunter always called me Susan even though my name is Suzanne. It is my understanding that his mother-in-law was named Susan Callie James (I only ever knew her name was Callie James), so maybe he thought my name was Susan, too. Men don't always notice these details. :) But for the longest time after he died, whenever someone called me Susan, I would hear his voice calling me. That was very upsetting.

Does your SIL like the nickname Susie-Q?

That's right, I can't wait to see him, but I have to. Drat! The time waiting is going to be as long as the last six weeks of pregnancy feels - forever!

Thanks for stopping by and commenting. Have a blessed day. :)
