Kissy's New Hat

I promised in a previous post that I would share a picture of the hat that I've been working on. Here is Kissy wearing her new hat!

I started out to follow the great pattern that I found at this website: Annie Cholewa: Downtown Hat

It took me a couple of starts to get it going because I first had trouble with picking up the stitches on the crown. I've never done that before. I ripped it out at least twice and started over. The switch over from the straight needles to the circular needle went just fine. I wish I could say as much about my memory!

I forgot where I was in the stitch pattern so many times that I had no idea what I would end up with. I definitely couldn't do it exactly the same again. It is a one of a kind original, as they say. I gave up trying to follow the pattern once the stitch pattern changed itself because I knitted once (or maybe three times) where I should have knitted twice. Either way, it was off. I ended up with a diagonal pattern for a few rows until I forgot again how many knit stitches I had done and set it back on course for the way the pattern started out.

So, what do you think?  Do you think this one turned out okay? Do you think that I should try, once again, to do the original pattern?  Let me know in the comment section, please. I'd love to hear your thoughts!

  1. That came out great! I wish I knew how to knit, I can only crochet.

    1. Thank you! Crochet is the easier of the two for me. My aunt taught me how to crochet when I was a kid. Knitting has been a different story entirely for me. I was in my 30s before I was able to knit anything worth giving to anybody. After nearly 20 years of practicing, I still knit at a snail's pace. :)

What do you like to crochet?

Thanks for stopping by and commenting. Have a great night!

  2. Your artistry looks impressive to me. I can sew on buttons and I do it badly, but what you've created is like brain surgery to me. Don't know how you do it, but it's really good.

    1. Thanks, Arlee. That's a very nice thing to say. It felt like brain surgery as I was trying to make it. It definitely made me question where my brain was each time I forgot my place.

Depending on the button and the fabric one is working with, sewing on a button can be a bit tricky. My sewing machine can stitch buttons, but I'm always afraid I'll break the needle if I try it that way.

Thanks again. Have a great night!

    1. Thank you! It didn't come out anything at all like the original pattern, but I am really happy with how it turned out.

      Have a great night!
