Here are this week's statements with the blanks:

Week 6: June 17, 2016...

1. The best brand of ____________ is _______________.

2. I refuse to buy _______________________ unless there is a sale or a coupon.

3. I am inspired by ___________ .

4. Whenever __________, I ___________.

Here are my answers:

Jif ©2016 Suzanne G. McClendon
1. The best brand of peanut butter is Jif. For years, I ate Peter Pan peanut butter, but I have been won over to the "Choosy mothers" brigade. I love peanut butter, period. After having Jif, Peter Pan peanut butter pales in comparison.

2. I refuse to buy _______________________ unless there is a sale or a coupon. I can't think of anything that I *refuse* to buy without a sale or coupon. I just generally do not like spending money unless I absolutely have to. When I buy yarn or needles or hooks, I hope for them to be on sale, but if they aren't, it doesn't keep me from buying them if I need them for a project. I absolutely can't stand buying clothes for myself, so I get those as cheaply as possible and avoid it as long as possible. I am not brand loyal across the board in regards to groceries. I look for the cheapest price, regardless of brand, with very few exceptions. Some store brands are okay in some categories, but are totally ick in other categories. Plus, the store brand is not always the cheapest.

3. I am inspired by those that don't let physical limitations keep them from living their dream. I have visual issues, but I know there is hope for my art. I have seen some amazing artwork created by people that are totally blind. If they can do it, there is no reason (other than lacking this skill or that one) for my visual impairments to hold me back either. You can see some examples here: Blind Art

4. Whenever a poem hits me, I have to write it down right then, uninterrupted, or it is lost forever. Trying to recapture it after being interrupted just doesn't work. It doesn't have the same power as the original, raw, straight-from-the-heart pass at it.

  2. Those are great answers. You are the 3rd on to have Jif as your answer for #1. I am going to have to try it now, I always buy the store brand. Thank you for participating. I am going to check out the blind art.

    1. I don't think that you will be at all disappointed when you try Jif peanut butter. :)

Please let me know what you think of the blind art. I thought the self-portrait that one of the folks did was great.

      Have a blessed day.

  3. Thank you for visiting my blog earlier!

Your fill-in answers are wonderful. Your #1 is identical to mine - nothing beats Jif! I love creating art, and your answer to #3 is truly inspiring.

    Have a lovely day!

    1. You're welcome and thank you for visiting here, too. :)

I find those artists inspiring, too. I saw a movie once in which the lady was blind and she was knitting (which is also another thing that I enjoy). I have been trying to figure out how she could do that, but I just can't figure it out. I hope that my vision won't get so bad that I can't see to do my yarn work. It is already affecting my photography, but I'm trying to just fight through it.

Thanks for stopping by. Have a blessed day.

  4. This is an interesting exercise that you did quite well with. I do all the grocery shopping in our household, but I don't put the same effort into that I used to before I was just shopping for my wife and I. I just go and get what I need and buy what is on sale or what seems like the best thing to get. Besides it seems like couponing is not as good as it used to be around here, but then again I don't pay that much attention I guess.

    1. Thank you!

I don't know about couponing being better or worse these days, but there are some really cool apps for smartphones that can help you save or make money from your shopping, some just by scanning items in the store. I use the apps way more than coupons. David wrote a post on one of his blogs about the apps we use to save and/or make money. Here is the link:

  5. Jif definitely seems to be something most of us agree on! I agree with you about shopping too, especially for clothes, it's a chore, not a pleasure. I believe that anyone can find a way to do something they love if they want it badly enough. I agree about poems, or even blog post ideas. If I don't write them down immediately, they are lost or never as good as the first thought that came into my mind! I wish our brains had a playback button! :-)

    1. You and me both! A playback button would be absolutely wonderful, in most cases anyway. There may be a few instances where it is a good thing that we don't. :)

When you have to buy clothes, do you prefer buying in the brick-and-mortar stores or online? I don't like crowds, but I also am very particular about the feel of fabric so I like to feel the clothes first. Fabric feeling aside, I would rather do all my shopping online.

      Have a blessed day.

  6. Well, my Joe loves Jiff, but the last BIG jar we bought was Peter Pan. He says it's just "okay" but it is lasting a lot longer than the Jiff usually does. Enjoyed your post!

    1. Maybe eat the Peter Pan faster so you can get a new jar of Jif again soon. Peanut butter cookies would be a quick way to get rid of it and they are good no matter what peanut butter you use. :) I will try to remember to post my Aunt Charlotte's peanut butter cookie recipe soon. It only has 4 ingredients and flour is not one of them, so it is a lower carb cookie than most.

Thanks and have a blessed weekend!

  7. Jif is the best! Growing up we always had Skippy but since I've been on my own and do my own shopping I only buy Jif. Grocery store brands are either good or really bad and not always the best buy.

    1. I don't think that I've ever had Skippy peanut butter. When I was a kid, my mother always bought Peter Pan, which is what David and I bought for years. Jif is much better. I can't imagine trying any other brand at this point.

Regarding store brands not always being the best buy, at our Walmart that is often the case. McCormick's is a brand name that isn't necessarily a cheap brand, but we have found on many occasions that ounce for ounce the McCormick spices/seasonings have been cheaper than the Great Value store brand. It always pays to compare rather than assume. Some things we just don't risk on store brands because of their likelihood to be icky, for example, American cheese slices. Those have to be Kraft. Most store brand cheese slices are gross.

  8. Oh, amen to losing poems not written down immediately! I have lost countless that way, I have journals filled with bits, pieces, and actual poems.

I always enjoy your answers and appreciate you joining in on Friendly Fill-Ins. Thank you! Hugs!

    1. I have snippets written down all over the place, too. Once, a poem hit me in the car and, of course, I couldn't write it down while driving. I just repeated it over and over in my head until I got to where I could write it down. That was a very quiet ride back from the city, at least as far as I was concerned, since I stopped talking so I wouldn't forget it.

Thank you for your kind comments. I always enjoy your fill-ins. Hugs. Have a great day!
