Me: A to Z

I found this meme at Me: A to Z.

A writing prompt based on the alphabet. 26 things about you. Write as much or as little as you like.

A If you were an ANIMAL, what would you be?

At this moment, probably an alligator. This headache is making me pretty cranky. Besides, they get to hang out in the water all day and it is bound to be cooler in the water than on the land. The mosquitoes are going to get me either way.

B BOOKS: What's on your reading list?

There are a zillion books on my reading list right now. I just recently finished Restless Faith by Winn Collier. I am also reading Call Me Luciano by Lauren Mariah.

C COMPULSIVE about anything?

I have to check the door lock when we leave the house because, although I almost always lock it as I leave, I am afraid that I forgot to do it this time, so I check it again.

D DREAMS - Do you ... dream in color? remember your dreams? keep a dream journal?

Yes, I dream in color. Night before last, there were bright yellow walls and bright pink carpet. Yes, I had pizza before I went to sleep. ha ha

E EATING - what's your usual snack?

Lays Stax chips are my sometimes snack and peanut butter crackers are another. Too often lately it has been Little Debbie snacks of one variety or another.

F A Few of your FAVORITE Things

In no particular order:  Books, cemeteries, nature photography, kitties, yarn and hooks/needles, babies, elderly people and, most of all my husband and children. The people aren't "things", I know.

G GIGGLES! What (or who) makes you laugh? Do you have a good sense of humor?

David and our kids make me laugh, sometimes so hard that it makes me cry and wet my pants. They are good at that.

H Major HOT Button:

Menopause has developed a lot of hot buttons for me. Abortion has always been a hot button. Scantily clad people and the people gawking at them are another. Men should be happy with the wives they vowed to love forever regardless of the changes that her body goes through and it works the other way, too. Women shouldn't be gawking at men that aren't their husbands.

I   I am ______________

I am desperately seeking my purpose in life. I know that one thing that I am here to do is praise Heavenly Father and share His love with others. However, what I do not know is my purpose otherwise. What am I meant to do that will contribute to our household budget?

K Also KNOWN As... Aliases? Screen names? A nom de plume perhaps?

My name is Suzanne, but across the Internet I am mostly known as celticmama36 and SuzI am also known as Annie and Anne.

L I LOVE ...

My family. I also love finding flowers and bugs and snakes and other natural things to photograph. I love learning more about our family history. I love Heavenly Father and love that He loves me enough that He made a great sacrifice - His Son - on my behalf. I wish that hadn't been necessary, but His ways are not my ways and I will never have full understanding of His ways as long as I'm on this earth.

M How do you feel about MEETING people? Do it all the time? Rarely? Parties or 1-on-1?

At this point in my life, I do not seek out meeting people, at least not in person.  I don't mind meeting new bloggy friends online at all. I enjoy that.  I'm just not an in-person people person because I am extremely shy. I'd rather be invisible when people are around in real life.

N What's the story of your NAME? were you named after anyone? Do you go by a nickname? Any aliases?

I was named after my great-grandmother Annie Black Gunter and her sister Susie. Annie was my daddy's paternal grandmother and he loved her dearly. My daddy wanted to name me Susie Annie after both of them, but my mama combined the names to make "Suzanne". For years, I was glad that she had done that. But now, I think that it would be really cool to be "Susie Annie". :)

O OBSERVANT - What's around you right now? What do you see?

To the left of me are David, with his feet propped up like a good boy and Laynie, who is asleep. To the right of me is a closet. Behind me is our doll Kissy, which could be kind of creepy and is to some people.  I think she's a sweetheart even though she does seem to move around on her own sometimes. In front of me is my computer and a desk that needs to be de-cluttered.

P Who are the special PEOPLE in your life?

David and our children, our grandparents (though they are all gone now), and our parents, and a few very close friends. Also, my blog followers are special to me. I appreciate each visit and comment very much!

Q Any Little QUIRKs About Yourself:

I like things to be even and balanced. However, if I get a scratch on one side of my car, I'm not going to scratch the other side just so they'll be even. Just go and check Monk's list of quirks and we share a few of them. I definitely like to keep wipes handy!

R What do you like to do for RECREATION?

I like to walk through cemeteries. For me, researching family history IS recreation. It is also my passion. I also like to photograph pretty flowers and most things in nature. I like to read.

S Do You SING in the Shower? In the car? For your friends?

No to the shower singing, and definitely no to any singing where other people can hear me. Sometimes I sing in the car, even if my family is in the car, but not often. After years of negativity about my singing, I figure it is best to do it when no one is within ear shot.

T What's at the Top of your TO DO list?:

At the moment, completing this blog post. We just finished replacing a low beam headlight bulb in Zoomie, so that is now off the list. Next thing up is a post about the whole experience.

U Any UNUSUAL Experiences:

I helped replace a headlight bulb in our car today. I've never done that before.

V VEGAS, Vienna, Venice, Vladivostok... How far have you traveled? What's your favorite City?

When I lived in South Carolina, I went to Norfolk, Virginia in the early to mid-1970s. That was the farthest that I had ever been. As young adults, David and I went to Kansas City, Missouri, and as not-so-young adults, we traveled out here to Texas. Now, the farthest that I've ever been west is San Antonio, Texas. I have still never been out of the South.

I do not have a favorite city because I do not like cities at all. I would rather be out in the middle of nowhere. But, if I had to live in a city here in Texas, I would choose what I refer to as "The Village" in Sugar Land, Texas. We live in a little town with a population of about 10,000 people and even that is way more than I want to deal with.

W WINTER, Spring, Summer, Fall... What's your favorite season? What makes it special?

My favorite season is winter because it is NOT summer. Summer here is Texas is incredibly hot, with temperatures over 100 degrees on a regular basis.  Once, the temperature gauge in my car, in the shade, said it was 118 degrees!

But, temperatures aside, I also like springtime here in Texas because that is when all of the wildflowers come out to play.

X EXes - Things You Don't Do Anymore (but did, once (would you, again?))

I used to drink, not often, but when I did it was specifically to get drunk. I drank vodka, oftentimes nearly straight. After the first couple, it was straight. The first alcoholic drink I ever had was vodka straight, Smirnoff Silver, from the bottle that sat by my daddy's bed. I sneaked it and somehow never got caught. I was 15 or 16 years old at the time.

Y Any secret/deep YEARNINGS?

Yes, but one must have some mystery in life. Besides, I promised the government I would never tell.

Z ZERO to ZENITH - Where are you in your life? Still growing? On an upward (or downward) curve? Just skating along?

I think right now I am at a plateau. I don't seem to be growing and, in some ways, I am very definitely backing up.  Overall, I guess I am just skating along.

NOTE: There doesn't appear to be a linky attached to this meme, so if you post it, too, please come back here and share the link to your blog post here in the comment section. I'd love to read it!

  1. I'm in Texas too and I hear you about summer. This hasn't been a bad spring this year, so I have high hopes for a mild summer. I always double check the locks too.

    1. We can't be too careful, can we? There's a ton of weirdos out there with no respect for other people.

It hasn't been too bad heat-wise, but the water. OY! Our river is flooding our town again. We're in the city of Wharton. Flood stage of the Colarado River here is 39 feet. It is over 44 feet right now and expected to go higher.

  2. I enjoyed reading your answers and feel I know you better for it. You talked about feeling in someways you are going backward, then said overall perhaps skating along: are you skating backward?!? LOL I had to pick on you a little when I saw that. ;) I think it is normal to have an area of ones life that seems to be stagnant or in reverse while otherwise life is just swimming along. There are seasons for everything.
