S is for Say a Prayer

http://www.a-to-zchallenge.com/

This post departs from my challenge theme a little bit today, though there will still be a Statesmen Quartet video at the end.

Please say a prayer for our town, which is Wharton, Texas. Really, prayers are needed for this whole 9-county region of Texas. The governor has declared a state of disaster because of the flooding. Below are a few photos taken in our town on Thursday, 21 April 2016. Also, here is a link to David's blog post which has a video showing our ride through town, showing the flooded areas: Flooding in Wharton County, Texas.

Colorado River Gauge at Wharton, Texas - 48.23 feet.

Flood stage for the Colorado River at Wharton is 39 feet. As you can see by the gauge, the river is now over 48 feet (as of 5pm, 21 April 2016). The river is expected to be even higher by morning.

Elm Street at Riverfront Park, Wharton, Texas.

The road that the police cars are on will likely be underwater by morning.

Both of the above photos were taken at the Riverfront Park on Elm Street, which is about a mile from our house. The part of the river that is closest to our house is only about a quarter mile away.

These last two images were taken just beyond the exit for FM 102 at US 59, which is about 4 miles from our house.

Thank you for any prayers that you send up for our area. It could get much worse before it gets better, but here's hoping the river is on its way down as I type this, regardless of what the predictions say.

I don't know what tomorrow holds, but I know Who holds tomorrow. Heavenly Father has this river under control, no matter what happens.

Now, for the Statesmen video that you've been waiting for!  Here are Rosie, Jack, Doy, Chief, and Hovie showing what goofballs they were as they prepare to sing "Sweeter as the Days Go By".

    1. Thank you, Denise, for the prayers and for stopping by and commenting. I just made an addition to this post. I included a link to David's blog post which has a video of our ride through town. The area of town that always floods the worst is worse now than we've ever seen it since we've lived here (11 years now).

Thanks again for the prayers. Have a blessed day!

  2. I've sent a prayer your way. Of course the flooding situation has been on my mind since one of our daughters lives down that way. They are apparently in a place that has been safe from any flooding.

    Be well.

  3. Oh My Suzanne...I had no idea you were in the part of Texas that has flooding. Just unbelievable the scenes we have seen on the news, and now your pictures. Many thoughts and prayers sending your way. Stay safe! Thanks so much for all your wonderful comments. They are a bright spot in my day...after some crazy stuff going on at work. I appreciate your daily blessings more than you will every know. 'Say A Little Prayer'...perfect for the Letter S and for all you and those in your area are going through.

I'll be back on Sunday to catch up with the posts I have missed.

    1. Thank you so much, Sue. We appreciate the thoughts and prayers very much.

Some of the folks here are in a very bad spot. If you go to visit David's blog post that I linked to at the beginning of my post, there are links to another man's videos. Those videos show how widespread the water is here in our town, especially the west side of town. His were shot from an aerial view and are just incredible. Water is everywhere on that side of town.

I am so glad that my comments are a bright spot for you! Your blog is a bright spot for me, too. It always makes me smile. I love reading about your collections and appreciate you stopping by here to comment, too.

I hope that you have a great weekend and look forward to hearing from you when you get back. Have a blessed night. :)

  4. Oh Suzanne. Poor you. These must be very worrying times for you. I remember when Brisbane was having its floods and all the roads were cut. It was a surreal feeling watching it all on television and not being able to go out and see it for yourself. Everything was very quiet except for the sounds of all the news choppers overhead (we live right next to the mountain where all the tv channels have their studios). I do hope you are okay. Cleaning up after a flood is no fun at all and very dispiriting.

    1. Thankfully, things are drying out. The river is going down and it appears that the Texas Guard and Texas National Guard have left town along with the media presence. We're okay.

How scary that must have been for you, especially not being able to leave your home. Our yard and neighborhood got wet, but thankfully our home wasn't flooded and we were able to drive to the parts of town that we needed to access. How long did it take to dry out after your flood? Did the water get into your house? I hope not.

Thanks for stopping by and commenting. Have a blessed day!
