Chatterbug College: Social Studies - Hometown

I was born in Anderson, South Carolina during the summer of 1965. My daddy was born there, my grandpa was born there and a few zillion other members of my family were born there, including our surviving children.

Anderson is located in the Northwestern corner of the state where South Carolina borders with Georgia, which also has a good bit of my family's history contained within its borders. Anderson has four distinct seasons, but doesn't always get snow in the wintertime. As I've gotten older, it seems that the snow times have gotten fewer. However, it seems like since we moved out here to Texas, they've gotten more snow back home than they ever did while I was there. So unfair! :)

I lived in South Carolina until 2004, so until just after I turned 39 years old. My first birthday in Texas was my 40th birthday.

What I love about Anderson County, South Carolina, is the family history there and the beautiful scenery. It has a rolling landscape, not flat as a pancake everywhere for miles. When the fall comes, the leaves on the trees change colors and it is an awesomely beautiful site, most especially in the mountains. No matter where I turn, something involving my family is there.

No matter where my life's journey takes me, South Carolina will always have my heart.

Please be sure to visit Chatterbug College to join in the assignments!

My hometown has so much snow that I seldom miss the snow. :-)

    1. Thank you, Romi. There are some very pretty areas there and some that are not so pretty. I can't imagine how much it has changed there since we moved away ten years ago. I wonder if I would even know my way around anymore.

I'd be willing to have you share your snow with me. :)

Thanks for stopping by and commenting. Have a great week!

    1. Thanks!

I've been to Tennessee a few times. It is a really pretty place. I've been to Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg, Nashville, and Memphis, many of these on our honeymoon.

I hope that you get your wish to live their someday. :)

  3. This was so interesting to read. The sentence starting out your post made me feel as if I were reading the opening words to a classic memoir or a Southern novel. I have always wanted to visit S.C. It looks and sounds absolutely charming and breathtaking. The photos I see are always so beautiful. I can see why it is the place that holds your heart. What a blessing to be from a place where family surrounds you in all you do and where your family history is strong. I believe nothing makes us feel so at home than when we are in the place that our family roots are deep. That is such a gift.
I so enjoyed your post. ...I also wanted to just thank you so, so much for the comments you left on my blog. I loved getting to read them and I'd like to especially thank you for your indescribable kindness in your words on the post about my Aunt. Your comment was uplifting, healing, and encouraging to me. I can't tell you what a blessing to my heart it was. Thank you so very much for sharing such loving, heartfelt encouragements. You also mentioned that your Father had passed away... I am so very sorry to hear of your loss and please know that my heart goes out to you. I know I don't know when he passed, but it does not matter because I know that the feeling of grief never quite leaves no matter how long someone has been gone.
Thank you again. God bless you!

    Have a blessed day!

    1. Thank you, Jazzmin. I am glad that you enjoyed my post and I appreciate your kind comments regarding my daddy. He passed away 9 December 2012. I didn't get to be there with him and it hurts very much.

I am glad that something I said has helped you in your grief. The loss of our loved ones is something that we never get over. We just have to find a way through the grief and knowing that someone understands our heart is very much needed at such time.

Thank you, too, for your encouragement and compassion. May our Heavenly Father bless you. Have a great week!

  4. Hi Suzanne, I enjoyed your homework. I enjoy meeting people who live in the country as I am a city girl from California.

    1. Thank you, Susan. I enjoyed doing this and look forward to further participation. The next assignment is about school, and that should be interesting to write about. :)

I grew up in the woods in Anderson County, so this small town that we're living in now in Texas is just too much "city" for me. I would love to get back to the woods someday.

Do you like living in the city?

Thanks for stopping by and commenting. Have a great day!

Thank you again for participating and I look forward to seeing my homework assignments from you.

Stop by my blog sometime too (and I will take a peek through yours as well!) have a wonderful day! Hugs

    1. Thank you, Jules. I will visit your blog and thank you for stopping by mine.

I look forward to the future assignments. I see that the September assignment is about school memories. That will be an interesting one for me to write.

I enjoy this type of writing as it furthers my goal of answering my children's future questions about our family, the questions that they don't know yet that they will some day have. If I can answer them now, before they have them, they won't have to one day ponder them when it is too late to get the answers.

Thanks for stopping by and commenting. Have a great day!

  6. Hi again, Suzanne! Thank you for commenting on my blog! I agree with EVERYTHING you said about SAHM. That article really made me see red. I was trying to find it to link to it, but it's like it disappeared! I wish I knew how you could follow my blog. lol My blog is built using wordpress and not blogger/blogspot. So I'm not sure exactly that would work. I know you can do something using RSS feeds but that's beyond my realm of "expertise". I'm sorry I could help you more with that! I will try to find out if there's a plugin that will allow users to follow though. :) Have a great Tuesday and thank you again!
