A to Z April Challenge: L is for Love

There are lots of Bible verses, poems, quotes and songs about love. I will share some with you today.

Bible verses about love (KJV unless otherwise marked):

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
John 3:16

Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.
John 15:13

And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.
Mark 12:31

And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.
1 Corinthians 13:13 NIV

We love him, because he first loved us.
1 John 4:19

But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
Romans 5:8

Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.
Ephesians 4:2 NIV

In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another.
1 John 4:9-11

Love poem:

by Elizabeth Barrett Browning
#43

How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.
I love thee to the depth and breadth and height
My soul can reach, when feeling out of sight
For the ends of Being and ideal Grace.
I love thee to the level of everyday's
Most quiet need, by sun and candle-light.
I love thee freely, as men strive for Right;
I love thee purely, as they turn from Praise.
I love thee with a passion put to use
In my old griefs, and with my childhood's faith.
I love thee with a love I seemed to lose
With my lost saints, --- I love thee with the breath,
Smiles, tears, of all my life! --- and, if God choose,
I shall but love thee better after death.

What is the perfect expression of love in your opinion?

  1. You have Romans 5:8 and I think that is about the perfect idea of love. God loved us, while we were sinners and sent His son to save us. What could be better. Wow!!!

    1. It feels wonderful to hear it and know that it is meant by the person saying it, doesn't it?
