Monday Quiz About Me

Here are this week's questions:

1. Who do you like to quote? It varies. Zig Ziglar, Mark Twain, Einstein, the Bible...I can't limit it to just one.

2. Have you ever made something you wore out in public? Yes. In home economics in high school, I made a shirt and a skirt. I was totally uncomfortable wearing the skirt as it was a wraparound skirt and it always managed to be windy when I was wearing it!

3. When was the last time you used a telephone (not a cell phone)? Recently, very recently. I used our old 500 series rotary dial phone to help locate one of our cell phones. We found it at The Emporium in Glen Flora, Texas. Here is a picture of it.

The phone number was already there when we bought it. It only cost us $10! I had missed the sound of a rotary dial phone so much that I was ecstatic when we found this!

4. What was the first recording you bought with your own money? I didn't get an allowance as a child nor did I have a job until I was with my husband, so whatever I got it was with him. David says that he thinks it was the Moody Blue album by Elvis Presley. I can't remember for sure, but Elvis is always a safe answer when it comes to music. :)

Now, for the 5th question for my bloggy friends to answer:

5. Where did you go on your first date? I went to see Endless Love on my 16th birthday with the man that I eventually married and have been married to since 1984, David.

Disclosure: The text links to Moody Blue and Endless Love are affiliate links. Your purchase of this album helps to support my genealogy research. :)

  1. Oh wow, my first date. That was over 40 years ago but I still remember it well. His name was Frank and he drove a Mustang Fastback. We went to East Drive-In to see Big Jake with John Wayne and Midnight Cowboy with Jon Voight and Dustin Hoffman.

    1. What a cool car! What color was it? David had a 1979 Mercury Capri, white exterior and powder blue velour interior, 8 cylinder, 302 cubic inch engine, 4 barrel carburetor, 5 liter engine (whatever all that means!). David chose the fuel efficient version, but his daddy insisted on the racing version. :)

It was a fun little car. Unfortunately, we wrecked it one night on the way to take me home. I was plucking glass out of my forehead for over a week.

We've seen Big Jake, but I don't think we've seen Midnight Cowboy.

Thanks for sharing your first date here. Have a great week!

  2. Our first date with my husband was when I was 16 and we saw "Cool Hand Luke" with Paul Newman and "Family Way" with Hayley Mills. We spent 2 years apart and saw "Shoes of the Fisherman" with Anthony Quinn on second time around first date.

    1. David says that we've seen "Cool Hand Luke", but I don't remember it. We aren't sure about "Family Way." We haven't seen "Shoes of the Fisherman". I'm sorry that you had two years apart. Was he in service? We had time apart, too, but it was due to a misunderstanding over something that he told a friend of mine.

I'm glad that things worked out for you two. Thanks for sharing your first dates here with us. Have a great week!

  3. Rotary phones! Was one of my favorite reasons to visit Grandmama's house. We had Victorian style one at home but it wasn't the same as Grandmama's hefty one.

My first "car date", as in being picked up by my date, was to see Nightmare Before Christmas. Though his younger brother and my sister were tag a longs so not sure if it counts as a date.

    1. I love the sound that the rotary phones make when you dial them. I guess I am easily entertained. haha Was your grandma's phone on the wall or a table model? The one that we found is a table model. When I was a little girl, my parents had one mounted on the wall. I had to climb a chair to use the thing. :)

We've seen Nightmare Before Christmas, though I don't remember much about it beyond it being an animated movie. I think that it still counts as a date even though you had tag-a-longs. We had many dates like that, too. :)

Thanks for stopping by and sharing here. Have a great week!

  4. I can't remember the last time I saw a rotary phone let alone actually used one. :-) My first real date was a double date (of sorts) to Pizza Hut. The other "couple" was my sister and one of her girlfriends. I went out with the guy alone several times after that, but I don't remember where.

    1. It was a miracle that we found the rotary phone that we found. It was down on a lower shelf hiding behind a flower or something and I caught a glimpse of it. There was no way that we were leaving that place without it. :)

Did you double date often? If so, was it fun for you or did you prefer regular dating? We had double dates on a few occasions, but I think that I preferred the regular dates.

What kind of pizza did you have?

Thanks for sharing about your first date here and have a great week!

  5. Aw, I can't remember my first date...
I do remember the first time I took my first real girlfriend to the city in my car. We got pulled over for weaving because she was getting fresh with me while I was trying to drive!

  6. I don't remember so long ago. It was probably mini golf or the arcade or something. My only first date that matters was when I was 38. We went to see the Boston play baseball in Detroit. My Tigers won, his Red Sox didn't, yet the ticket from that game is still on his refrigerator. (That's my fridge now too)

    1. Thanks, Kristen! I love it, too. There's no doubt about whether the phone is ringing or not with this one hooked up. :)
