Wrapping Up the Week

One of the challenges that I've signed up for this year is called Creative Every Day. Creativity can be expressed in a multitude of ways. One of the ways I've chosen this week is to search for public domain images to play with in Photoshop. I found the following sign post at: Ireland First.

I flipped it around so that the arrows would be pointing in the direction that was logical for my current location, labeled the signs, added a few aging filters, and turned the grass and clovers green to come up with this:

One thing that I learned during this project was to save once you get a version that you like. Then, save it again just in case you didn't really save it before when you thought you did. I didn't and lost a way better version than this one.

We were out earlier today and saw two of the cutest little blond girls, both probably around two years old. They reminded us of our oldest daughter when she was about the same age. The one had the bluest eyes and was wearing a black dress with big, white polka dots, super cute. Then, there went the finger to the nose. You know what was next...that finger went to her mouth. I guess she got tired of waiting for the happy meal.

I found the following quote earlier today after seeing a Mark Twain quote on Pinterest and thought that I would share it here with you.

"Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”
Mark Twain

What dreams are you not living because it is safer to stay in the harbor than to risk a broken sail? Share them with me. I'd love to hear them!

  1. I live life on the edge, and at my age that is saying something. But I love the excitement of taking risks--not foolish ones, mind you, but ones that expand my horizons, and stretch my creativity.

  2. @Marti

Hi Marti. Thanks so much for responding. :)

In some ways, I am a risk-taker, but less so than when I was younger. I guess that I'm getting chicken in my old age (46 haha). I am pretty conservative and analyze anything to death before I take a risk, generally.

What kinds of risks have you taken that have stretched your creativity?

I did one thing last year that stands out as risky to me on a personal level. I hate getting my picture taken. I'd rather be behind a camera than in front of it. But, I did a self-portrait photo shoot and took some pretty goofy pictures of myself...and then I posted them on this blog. OY! What was I thinking? haha I had to just close my eyes and hit send on that post quickly before I changed my mind. I hope this creates the link properly. If not, the post was on 30 April 2011:

    One Little Word: Freedom

Thanks again for stopping by. Have a wonderful night!

  3. Ah, don't we all have dreams we aren't living?

I'd love to get my degree in philosophy (instead of business like my parents wanted), open a dance studio, or move out of the city. Things I can see myself doing because I'd love it, but family pressures and/or a pay cheque in the bank is more important. But oh, how magnificent it could be to do it.

    Sigh.

Great post. Talk about a friendly reminder that we only live once.

  4. Hmmm. I'd have to really think about this. I am such an impulsive person and like to have fun. I think my husband is harder to get out of the harbor than myself.
