Five-Minute Friday – Waking Up

Five Minute Friday is a writing adventure that I learned about on Gypsy Mama’s website. We are to write for 5 minutes, without editing, without worrying, just writing. This week’s theme is “Waking Up”.

I would like to send hearty congratulations to Gypsy Mama and her family on their new addition. May our Heavenly Father bless you both with great health and happiness for many years to come!

Now, on to “Waking Up”…

Waking up brings several things to mind for me. First, the obvious, getting up in the morning, fighting the eye crispies, the mad dash to THE ROOM, and generally wishing that I could just go back to sleep. I am not at all a morning person. I would be perfectly happy to do my sleeping during the day and be awake at night. The night suits me better and always has.

But, what waking up brought to mind for me today is spring. The world around me is waking up to colors of all types: soft pastels, hard primaries, blues, reds, greens, yellows, whites. They are all over the place! Wildflowers as far as the eyes can see in front yard flower beds, on the sides of the road, and across vast fields. Everything is alive with color.

There are festivals here to honor the state flower, the Bluebonnet, and it doesn’t even have to be blue to be a bluebonnet. There are pink ones, albino ones, and yes, most definitely blue ones, in several different shades, even.

Each day that we go out there are more and more popping up in the yards around. I eagerly await the morning that I go out and see my neighbor’s yard loaded down with them again. It hasn’t happened yet, but will soon.

We went out today and found tons of them in a field that is part of an historic site in a state park. I hope that you enjoy just a few sites from our very special outing. (Pictures coming soon!)

What wakes you up, brings you to life, in the springtime?

  2. Winter doesn't last long at all down here, and really, what passes for winter here is more like fall in my opinion.

I hope that you'll get some color there very soon. May the flowers begin! :)

  4. Thanks, Rebecca. :) Are there any flowers in bloom in your area yet? I have friends that are still buried under snow, no flowers in sight.

I think that morning just comes way too early in the day. haha
