Prayer Request

I would like to ask all of you to pray for a little one. His name is Jackson. He is approximately 18 months old. This baby has been diagnosed with cancer. I do not have any further details and may not be able to get any more than I have shared here.

Please pray for this baby to be healed completely, and earth-side healing, and to not suffer.

Cancer is a word that strikes fear into the hearts of many of us. Years ago, a man I knew as Cuz told me about how he beat cancer back in the 1950s. He was telling me this in the mid-1980s.

By now almost everyone has heard of alternative treatments for cancer. Helvie addresses many of these alternatives, but continues to warn his readers to consult their healthcare provider before starting any treatment/preventative.

Reducing Your Cancer Risk is primarily an accumulation of links to different sources for further information, along with some basic information and explanations regarding the subject area discussed.

The great thing about this book is it is meant to be updated by the various websites it is linked to. The basic information probably will not change, but research and development will change what we know.

Like any good book on medical conditions, readers are reminded that the book is not meant to diagnose, treat, or cure any medical condition. It can help you get a better understanding of how to prevent cancer. We give Reducing Your Cancer Risk all five stars.

Eric Lefkofsky: Enhancing Cancer Care Through Data Approach

Since 2015, Eric Lefkofsky has been battling on the most effective approach on Cancer treatment. The CEO and co-founder of Tempus Labs leads the health tech company staff to tackle the complex disease using data approach. Cancer is a complex disease because it camouflages and poses as part of the body components thus protecting its cells from the body’s defense mechanism. Ordinarily, foreign elements in the body are detected and expelled by the defense system. However, the cancerous processes camouflage to be part of the normal body functions that gradually destroy the body cells.

The principal objective behind establishment of Tempus Labs is to improve care of cancer patients and loved ones. The diagnosis approach involves gathering, cleaning, and organizing data of different cancer patients for the purpose of optimizing care. Tempus Labs obtains information from top academic institutions as well as specific cancer treatment centers. Optimizing cancer therapy and treatment is the primary goal of Tempus Labs led by its CEO, Lefkofsky.

One of the challenges in cancer treatment is access to patient data by the physicians. For a long time, there has been a rift between storage and access of patient data. Access to such data is critical to therapy development because physicians can establish patterns and similar behavior of the cancerous processes thus prescribe suitable treatment. This is one of Tempus Labs’ fundamentals. The tech company strives to collect and centralize data through a machine learning platform. The platform integrates molecular data and clinical records. This enhances the cancer treatment approach considering therapy is more personalized.

According to Lefkofsky, molecular data is the primary basis of all manner of treatment in the field of medicine. Although it is as an integral approach in therapy, Eric Lefkofsky registers his dissatisfaction on the one-sided approach. Molecular data entails a patient’s RNA and DNA. Tempus uses analysis and sequencing method to obtain data from genes. Additionally, the molecular data is matched with clinical data to determine the best mode of therapy for a specific patient. The primary goal of Lefkofsky at Tempus is to initiate personalized medicine that has been an area of medical research for more than a decade. Gene sequencing and data analysis helps the Tempus staff to be precise in developing and prescribing medicine for cancer patients. According to Lefkofsky, the platform is not only for Tempus Labs but also available to neurologists and Oncologists.

Apart from Tempus, Eric Lefkofsky is also the co-founder of Echo Global Logistics, Light bank, InnerWorkings, and Uptake Technologies. Evidently, Lefkofsky has not only ventured in the health tech industry but also in transportation and logistics. Currently, he is a professor at the University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business. He also served as a tutor at Northwestern University as well as at DePaul University.

Besides his investments and contribution towards Cancer care, Lefkofsky also engages in charitable activities. He is the founder of Lefkofsky Family Foundation, which he runs with his wife. The foundation drives initiatives in improving medicine, education, culture as well as the fundamental human rights. Lefkofsky and his wife are also key contributors and members of The Giving Pledge. In addition to this, Lefkofsky sits on the board of management of the Lurie’s Children’s Hospital of Chicago. He is also part of The Museum of Science and the Art Institute of Chicago trustee boards.

Fighting for Our Lives: My Battle With Cancer to Save My Baby and Myself by Heather Choate is probably the most emotional book that I have read all year. It is an awesome testimony of the determination of a mother and the power of faith.

Life throws some very upsetting punches in Heather’s direction. Imagine being told that you have breast cancer at age 29...while you’re 10 weeks pregnant, with your 6th child. Any one of these things can be overwhelming, but to have them all on you at one time - and thrive - takes one strong, determined woman, a devoted husband and family, and faith in a loving Heavenly Father. Heather is, and has, all of those.

Fighting for Our Lives brought me to tears on more than one occasion. There are smiles and even a giggle or two along the way. Though I have not been diagnosed with breast cancer, I could relate to Heather’s feelings on many occasions. It is an emotional story, but she has a positive attitude and her faith is evident throughout the book.

This book is written like one would write in a diary or journal. Some days are skipped along the way. Some days just have a line or two. Other days, Heather pours out her heart in words that engage your heart, leaving you wanting to reach through the pages and give her a hug, as you both bawl your eyes out.

Fighting for Our Lives is an inspiring story of faith and hope.  It is a story of being scared, but doing it anyway, because not doing it would mean the end of the story.

This book earns all 5 stars. I highly recommend it to anyone going through a tremendous test of faith, even if it isn’t cancer. You may cry an awful lot as you read it, but you won’t be sorry that you did. You may just find a revival of your own faith within the pages of Heather’s story.

In this book, Becker takes us through his life, starting out as a child with his one and only experiment with drugs, through his life as a young computer geek who dropped out of high school, all the way through his life as a stockbroker, Biotech stock analyst, CEO, CFO, entrepreneur, and more.

Throughout his career, Michael Becker was in contact with numerous doctors, scientists, researchers, and more who were on the cutting edge of cancer research.  

Little did he know at the time that he would soon draw on the self-education he was getting to fight the disease himself.

A Walk With Purpose is an excellent read that you can’t put down.  From a business perspective, it is a great read giving the history behind some companies that we had never heard of that evidently are very big players in the biotech industry.

From a Life Recipe perspective, this book is a great read because it has such a positive message. A message of hope.  

From an entertainment perspective, A Walk With Purpose is a wonderful read.  Bittersweet would be a good way to describe the book.

This book is happy, sad, funny, serious, informative, pretty much anything you want to find in a book is in this book.

The actual book is over 400 pages long.  That sounds like a lot, especially to anyone who normally only reads the 99¢ ebooks.  But, it is a very fast read. Primarily because it is impossible to put down.  We read it in less than a day.  Of course, part of that day was spent eating, blogging, etc., too.

We give A Walk With Purpose all five stars on our scale of zero to five stars.  It fits into just about every category of book we can think of, except maybe poetry.

We think you will enjoy your copy of A Walk With Purpose. Maybe you will be giving copies of it as gifts.

A Little Girl Named Bree and the Big "c" Word

I just read a post over at The Writing Canvas blog that will certainly tug at your heart. It is about a little girl named Bree who is fighting a battle that none of our children should be having to fight. She has cancer.

A lot has been happening since the recent extra bad news that came for Braden. A couple of websites have been set up for keeping people updated as well as to offer the opportunity to help this family via donations.

Urgent Prayer Request

I have an update on little Braden and it isn't good. Due to the treatment that he needed to survive the neuroblastoma and then the relapse of that neuroblastoma, Braden now has pre-leukemia that will become AML (a form of leukemia). His doctors have not known any child with neuroblastoma to survive this secondary cancer. The timeline that they gave his mama(Deliece) is a few weeks to a few months.

He beat the neuroblastoma when they said he wouldn't survive the relapse. He can beat this.

Surely Heavenly Father hasn't allowed him to beat neuroblastoma just to lose to leukemia...He has a purpose for Braden still.

Please pray for Braden and his family...they've been through so much...the death of Miranda(their firstborn) at 15 hours old, 6 years of battling the c-word with Braden, and Deliece's battle with breast cancer, her mother dying from it, and her husband's brother losing life to the "c" word, too.

Enough is enough!

I hope that all of you will go to Braden's Hope and read about the wonderful things being done to fight childhood cancer and make this a thing of the past for all children. There are so many affected by it each year...many only win their battle on the other side of Heaven. Braden has beaten the odds so far. Please pray for all of these precious children.

Braden's Hope

Braden is a little guy that has been fighting cancer for several years now. He was just three years old, a toddler, when diagnosed with Stage 4 neuroblastoma. In 2009, he suffered a relapse. The odds were against him as the medical community indicated that people rarely, if ever, survive a relapse of this cancer. Here we are in 2013, and this little fighter is still here. Praise the Lord!

There is so much more to the story. They are a family of fighters. You see, during Braden's battle for life, his mama was diagnosed with Stage 2 breast cancer. Their story is one of a mama who won't take no for an answer and a little boy who has a life to live and won't let the "c" word stand in his way.

Braden's mama, Deliece, has written a book about their journey thus far, how important the detours of life are, and how, through faith, you can face anything.
