Book Review: Journey into Health: Heal Yourself with Meditation and the Aid of Your Spirit Guides by Katrina Blecher

Journey into Health: Heal Yourself with Meditation and the Aid of Your Spirit Guides by Katrina Blecher

Whenever we are asked to review a book, we try to read it with an open mind. Some books are just a little out of our area.

We don’t normally deal with spirit guides or similar. Journey into Health: Heal Yourself with Meditation and the Aid of Your Spirit Guides by Katrina Blecher does speak of the author consulting her spirit guides to learn more about her.

That being said, we read this book based on what it is meant to be and where it is coming from. This is what we did, or at least attempted to do.

Blecher spent much of her time telling her readers what she learned from her spirit guides and a little about them. This was good and kind of interesting. What she did not do was really tell her readers how they could find theirs, although she did touch on this a little.

If this book is meant as a how-to guide, we really missed finding the how-to part. There were some interesting tales regarding what the author did and what she found out by doing it.

Overall, we give Journey into Health three stars. It is entertaining and might be helpful for some. We just couldn’t see how we could make it apply very well in our lives.

Book Review: Healing: Faith and Medicine: A Medical Professional’s Memoir of Healing and Dealing with Illness by Mark Davis

Healing: Faith and Medicine: A Medical Professional’s Memoir of Healing and Dealing with Illness by Mark Davis

Never before in our recollection have we read a book on faith that actually made cold chills run up and down our spines. Healing: Faith and Medicine: A Medical Professional’s Memoir of Healing and Dealing with Illness by Mark Davis actually gave us goosebumps.

Davis talks about how possibly the reason we don’t see as many miracles in the United States of America today as we see in third world countries is because here we have more resources to rely on. Perhaps he is right. However, here, families like us who are well below the poverty level, realize that miracles happen every day.

This book is incredibly well-written and difficult to put down. We give it all five stars. We know you will too.

If your faith needs a jump start, you owe it to yourself to read Healing: Faith and Medicine: A Medical Professional’s Memoir of Healing and Dealing with Illness by Mark Davis.

Great News!

Thursday, 19 October 2017, was my 6-month appointment with the ophthalmologist Dr. Dhir of the Houston Eye Associates.

For months, I have been a nervous wreck, wondering how this appointment would go. Would the cataracts have gotten worse? Were they progressing fast? Would they be “ripe” yet?

So many other questions plagued me as I watched the days flip by on the calendar.

A week or so before the appointment (maybe a little longer, my memory stinks these days!), I decided, “Enough is ENOUGH already!  Jesus healed the blind man in the Bible(Matthew 10:46-52) when he asked and I know He can heal me, too.” So, I asked Jesus to heal my eyes and claimed the healing. I was confident that He would heal me because I asked Him, believing that He could - and would heal my eyes and remove the cataracts.

46 And they came to Jericho: and as he went out of Jericho with his disciples and a great number of people, blind Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, sat by the highway side begging.

47 And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out, and say, Jesus, thou son of David, have mercy on me.

48 And many charged him that he should hold his peace: but he cried the more a great deal, Thou son of David, have mercy on me.

49 And Jesus stood still, and commanded him to be called. And they call the blind man, saying unto him, Be of good comfort, rise; he calleth thee.

50 And he, casting away his garment, rose, and came to Jesus.

51 And Jesus answered and said unto him, What wilt thou that I should do unto thee? The blind man said unto him, Lord, that I might receive my sight.

52 And Jesus said unto him, Go thy way; thy faith hath made thee whole. And immediately he received his sight, and followed Jesus in the way.

A few days before the appointment, the wicked one started trying to rain on my parade, throwing darts of doubt at me. I kept telling him to go away, but he may be just a little more stubborn than I am and kept at it. I was upset that doubt about the healing that I had claimed was creeping in. I kept telling myself that it was just the devil trying to make me doubt and that I was, indeed, healed of the cataracts.

So, I went to the appointment, scared half to death because I didn’t know what was going to happen. Was that worker boy going to lie to me again? He had the last time. He told me they weren’t going to actually touch my eyeballs, but they did.  He had numbed my eyes and then told me after his part of the exam that he had touched them. He said that had he told me the truth to start with, I never would have let him do that part of the exam (true!). David says his heart was in the right place. Maybe so, but if he would lie about that, then maybe what he said about the surgery itself was a lie, too.  I have long-time trust issues and this didn’t help that one bit.

Anyway, that boy wasn’t the technician this time, a girl was. She did what she had to do without playing mind games about it.  Then, she put in the drops to dilate my eyes and sent me back to the waiting room for the drops to do their job.

We finally got called back to the exam room and, after a bit, Dr. Dhir (pronounced “dear”) came into the room. He had a huge smile on his face. I don’t know what had him so happy, but he was very happy. He’s a very nice man and not at all scary.

He examined my eyes and gave us two bits of very good news:

  1. My vision has improved since he last saw me.
  2. The cataracts have not worsened!

My vision improving also explains why I get a headache and eye ache when I wear these glasses - they are just too strong!  The new ones should be here next week.

While I didn’t get the, “The cataracts are gone!” message that I had hoped for, my vision has improved and the cataracts have not worsened, which are answers to prayer, too!

Thank you to all of you that have supported me through this ordeal so far, through prayers and otherwise.

My next appointment is in a year. Thank you for continued prayers as I claim the healing that I know He has for my vision!

Healing is a Choice

I have started reading a book titled Healing is a Choice by Stephen Arterburn. As I process what I'm reading, I will be posting what is on my mind as I heal. Forgive me in advance if the posts sound like the ravings of a complete lunatic. We all have to start somewhere, don't we? :)
---

I don't know what is happening. Everywhere I turn, there are things pointing me toward unresolved grief, pushing me to face it head on and deal with it right now. I'm not ready. I can't do this. I don't want to spend the days and nights crying. Why are my dreams suddenly - again - being filled with babies and pets and family and all that has been taken from me?

I don't want to hold on, but I don't want to let go. Somehow the letting go trivializes what each one meant to me. Somehow letting go let's them go and I want them here, still, with me. Selfish. I know it sounds selfish. I. I. I. What I want, what I need, what I can't do.

I am instructed to make connections, to interact, to build bonds with people...friendship and love heal...when what I want to do is hide, to seal up this wall that I've built around my heart. I want to both run to and run away. If I'm not connected, then nothing can hurt me...or can't it?

They say it is better to have loved and lost than not to have loved at all. I'm stuck on the other side of this...scared to fully love, to fully be in the moment, because I know that loss and hurt are coming. We all die eventually. Some of us stop living long before we die.

What did He let me live for? Why didn't He just let me die rather than live to face one more heart wound, to know that, had I died, no one would have grieved because there would have been no loss?

Part of me says to tuck back, out of the light, out of sight is out of mind and I'll be forgotten and no one will think to hurt me. Another part says to jump right smack dab into the middle of life, phooey on what others think, and go out fighting - and loving. They are in a major tug-of-war, both having a firm grip on the rope.

Who will win? Time will tell, but will it before the bell tolls for me?

These are just some of the things that I am pondering as I make the choice to heal, to get back among the living, to be the me that He intended me to be.
