What talent or skill do you have that you are grateful for?

I don’t know if this is considered a talent or skill or not, but this is what came to me. I am grateful for my creative vision. I can see the potential in things that others aren’t able to see. I may not be able to bring that vision out of my head for others to see, but I can see it quite clearly.

Thank you, Heavenly Father, for the creative vision that you have given me to see potential where others do not.

What friend/family member are you grateful for today?

I am grateful for David. At this point in our lives, he has “owned me” heart and soul for almost twice as long as my parents had responsibility for me. He raised me from a pup, so to speak. Through these last 36 years, we have been through a great deal together.  Through it all, love remains. I couldn’t do this thing called life without him.

Thank you, Heavenly Father, for bringing David into my life and making him such a tremendous part of it.

What small thing that happened today are you grateful for?

I actually count this as a big thing, but to most folks it would be a small thing. I am grateful that we made it back from Houston alive, although very sweaty (Zoomie’s AC is not working).

Thank you, Heavenly Father, for safe travel and a fuel efficient car.

David is doing the challenge, too. Please visit him over at Random Thoughts and Observations. Thanks!

What small thing that you use daily are you grateful for?

Vivaldi ©2017 Suzanne G. McClendon

I can’t think of a small thing that I use daily, but a small thing that brings me a great deal of joy every day is our froggy Vivaldi. I see her every day. I haven’t seen Ludwig in a while.

Thank you, Heavenly Father, for Vivaldi and Ludwig, and all of the other little creatures that you have created.

What form of expression are you most grateful for?

I love to write, but I also love visual forms of expression, like photography and painting. All three of these are covered by the broader umbrella called “art”. Art is the form of expression that I am most grateful for.

Thank you, Heavenly Father, for blessing this world with talented artists and the wonderful creations that they share with us.

What moment this week are you most grateful for?

I can’t choose just one moment. I am grateful for all of the moments that we got to spend with our South Carolina family this week. Some moments were full of laughter. Some were full of tears and hearts too full to speak. All were beautiful moments that I will cherish for the remainder of my life.

Thank you, Heavenly Father, for bringing our South Carolina family safely to Texas and allowing us this time with them.

What challenge are you grateful for?

The first challenge that came to my mind is a blogging challenge - the A to Z Blogging Challenge - that happens every April.  I can’t think of any trial-like challenges that I am grateful for at the moment.
Thank you, Heavenly Father, for the A to Z Blogging Challenge.

What tradition are you grateful for?

I am grateful for the tradition of Thanksgiving, Miracle on 34th Street, and It’s a Wonderful Life.

I have very fond memories of Thanksgiving at my granny’s house and sure do miss those days! She’s gone on now to her reward in Heaven, so that tradition doesn’t continue.

We have watched the movies every year during the Thanksgiving/Christmas season for as long as I can remember. I think that one will continue for a very long time.

Thank you, Heavenly Father, for memories of Thanksgivings with Granny and for great movies to watch during the Thanksgiving/Christmas season.

What story are you grateful for?

I am grateful for the story that my granny told me about the fried chicken dinner when she was a little girl.

Though it was a painfully sad story, it helped me to learn a bit more about how she came to be the granny that I knew. Each thing that I learned about her life - good or bad - helped me to understand and love her even more.

Thank you, Heavenly Father, for allowing Granny to share that painful story with me.

What song are you most grateful for?

The song that meant the most to me as a little girl growing up in church was The Old Rugged Cross. It is a simple song that says so much - He died for me. He suffered for me. He loved me.

“Then He'll call me some day to my home far away, Where his glory forever I'll share.”

What better song, what better promise, could there be?

Thank you, Heavenly Father, for that old rugged cross and all that it was, is, and is to come.

Who in your life are you grateful for?

I am grateful, first and foremost, for The Holy Trinity- Heavenly Father for the Gift He gave to us; Jesus for being such an awesome brother that loved me enough to sacrifice His own life for mine; and the Holy Spirit for His protection and discernment.

I am grateful for David, who chose me over probably better prospects long ago, and stays with me through all of my imperfections.

I am grateful for my children and all the lessons they’ve taught me and the love they’ve given me over the years.

I am grateful for my parents, that they allowed me to live.

I am grateful for all of my grandparents and the unconditional love that each of them offered me.

I am grateful for true friends and the love and guidance they offer and for just being themselves. AND for tolerating blubberfests in public and aren’t afraid to proclaim the Word no matter who is around.

Thank you, Heavenly Father, for the loved ones you’ve placed in my life.

What touch are you grateful for today?

I am grateful for the hugs of my husband and daughter and those of a friend that we hadn’t seen in probably 20 years.

Thank you, Heavenly Father, for the hugs of loved ones.

What piece of art are you grateful for?

I don’t have enough room on this blog post to give a full answer on this one. I will start with The Calling of St. Matthew by Caravaggio.

The Calling of Saint Matthew-Caravaggo (1599-1600)

And for The Creation of Adam by Michelangelo.

But, I am most grateful for two paintings that were a big part of my childhood. One hung over the heater in our living room and the other was in our foyer, greeting people as they came in.

In the living room was The Last Supper by Leonardo da Vinci.

In the foyer was The Good Shepherd. I do not know the artists' name. There are several versions of this painting. I can't get a good picture of the one that is hanging in the foyer here at McClendon Villa, but it is like the one I grew up with. Here is a version that is similar:

Thank you, Heavenly Father, for bringing great, inspirational artwork into my life from a very young age.
