Wednesday Hodgepodge

1. Do you try to set rules for yourself about how you use your time? Explain.

Yes, I do try to do this, but my time management has really flown out the window lately. I have been living in overwhelm dealing with publicists’ requests and reading and trying to squeeze in some time for the genealogy research that I would really love to be doing.

I used to sit for hours on end looking at Pinterest. Now, if I take the time to go there at all, I just allow myself a few minutes. The same with Instagram. Of course, with Ancestry.com and Newspapers.com, I don’t have that kind of willpower and could sit there looking at them for a week at a time, forgetting all about eating or anything else!

2. Monday was National Lighthouse Day. Have you ever visited a lighthouse? If not, do you have any desire to see one up close? Of the 10 Most Beautiful that made this list which would you most like to see in person-

Lindau Lighthouse (Germany), Fanad Lighthouse (Ireland), Portland Head Light (Maine), Yaquina Bay Light (Oregon) The St. Augustine Light (Florida), Peggys Point Lighthouse (Canada), Start Point Lighthouse (England), Tower of Hercules (Spain), Bass Harbor Head Station (Maine), and White Shoal Light (Michigan)

When you've been away, what's your 'lighthouse' telling you you're on the right road home?

I do not recall ever visiting a lighthouse but, yes, it is most definitely something that I am interested in doing! I would love to photograph them.  I think the top one on my list is Cape Hatteras in North Carolina. There are several here in Texas that I would love to see, too.  Of those listed above, I would love most to see Fanad Lighthouse in Ireland because, well, it’s in Ireland!

If you’re meaning “right road home” figuratively, I have no clue right now. If literally, it really depends on where we’ve been. When we’re on the freeway and get to the two competing store billboards on the same sign, then I know we’re heading in the right direction.  If we’ve been to Eagle Lake, I know I’m heading the right way when we pass The Emporium.  If we’ve been to East Bernard, then I know we’re almost home once we pass the farmer’s co-op. And, once we get to the Milam Street Donut Shop, we’re on the downhill run.

3. What have you unintentionally stopped doing? Is this something you need to pick back up and begin again, or is it something you need to let go of for now (or even permanently)?

Photographing the backyard activity every day is something that I unintentionally stopped doing. It just sort of happened around the time of our SC family’s visit out here and I haven’t gotten back into the swing of it. I have taken a few pictures of birds since then, but, yes, I most definitely need to pick it back up again. My blood pressure has suffered something fierce for this lack of time with the birds and squirrels.

4. We've had a full week of August. Share a GRAND moment from your month so far.

The only thing that comes to mind for me right now is working with my mother-in-law on genealogy and finding several bits of information that have made her really happy. We are working on one of her very elusive lines and so finding anything at all makes us both very happy!

5. Tell us one song you love with the word 'baby' in the title.

Be My Baby

6.  Insert your own random thought here.

It seems the whole world is exploding in grand-babies. Everyone is having them, everyone except me and David. For the longest time, I was downright jealous. Happy for them but sad for us. But, you know what?  I have come to accept that it will likely never happen during our lifetime and I am okay with that. I don't want our children to have babies until and unless they are ready for them. I am genuinely happy for those being gifted with grandchildren and love oohing and ahhing over the photos being shared. I can live the grandma life vicariously through my friends AND I don’t have to change any diapers this way. :)

  1. Ancestry.com is great resource, isn't it? We were able to find relatives that we didn't even know about because of that website. I can see why you can spend a lot of time on it. Yes, it does seem like everyone has photos of grandchildren. That's a good philosophy you have about being content about not having grandchildren; and preferring that the parents would be ready for them.

    1. Thank you. It would be great to live in a world where every child was wanted, most especially by the folks that bring them into this world. Too often that isn't the case. I am 100% pro-life. I am also pro-responsibility. If one brings a child into this world, one has a responsibility to love that child. The child has a right to that love.

Yes, Ancestry.com and Newspapers.com both are wonderful resources. I have found so much on both sites about our families. I've learned about duels, about Indian massacres, and all sorts of interesting things through these sites. I'm glad you've been able to find cool stuff about your family that you didn't even know about, too!

      Have a blessed weekend. :)

  2. I've kind of dropped the photography ball here too. My good camera needs a repair and I just haven't taken the time to find someone to do it. Putting that on my to do list for September.

    1. I hope you're able to find someone to fix it. What is wrong with it?

It just won't do to have a broken camera when there's a new baby to photograph. :)

      Have a blessed weekend.

    1. Thank you, Ellen, on all counts. I'm not worried about the grand-babies anymore. Whatever is meant to be will happen. I hope the nature around here will take the temperature down a notch or two. It has been so very hot. The last time I checked, our heat index was 102. OY!

      Have a blessed weekend. :)

  4. What you said about Pinterest is so true! My gosh, I have lost HOURS to that site! I should really try to limit myself when I visit. Thanks for sharing.

    1. You're welcome, Jenny. Isn't Pinterest great? It has so many neat ideas. It is a place that depresses many folks, though, because they fall victim to the comparison monster. I try not to let that happen to me and limiting my time there helps to cut that down a great deal.

      Have a blessed weekend. :)
