Book Review: Sonya Sahni and the First Grade By Soma Mandal

Sonya Sahni and the First Grade
By Soma Mandal

Sonya Sahni and the First Grade by Soma Mandal is a wonderful book geared towards those young, international children who are struggling to fit in.

This book addresses the desire of most children to fit in.  This is not easy when your culture at home differs drastically from that of your fellow students.

Sonya Sahni and the First Grade is well-written and is colorfully illustrated.  We feel that this book is deserving of all five stars.

We would love to see this develop into a series of books where Sonya Sahni learns a little more in-depth about the mainstream American culture in different regions of the country (South, East, North, West) as well as other international cultures.

We feel that Sonya Sahni and the First Grade provides a great first step towards understanding other cultures. The idea presented in the book about International Day is spot on and should be followed in all public schools in the United States.
