Wednesday Hodgepodge

ASAP typically stands for 'as soon as possible'. What else could it stand for in your life right now?

I’ve really got nothing on this one. How about supper thoughts…asparagus soufflĂ© and potatoes? Or apple strudel and pecans? Or “all shrimp and pie”? Or even a sweet apple pancake?

Lita Watson from Quick Easy Cook has a wonderful page all about asparagus.  Click here to learn all about it and how to cook it: How to Cook Asparagus.

Are you the last person to speak up in a group or the first to have an idea? Why do you suppose that is? Is it a good thing or no?

I may be the first to come up with an idea, but I would likely be the last to speak up. Really, it depends on who the group consists of. It is because I am very shy and, after a lifetime of being told how stupid I am, I’d rather not open my mouth and prove it, no matter how great my idea may be or what good it may do.

Is it a good thing or not?  I don't know.  I do know it is their loss.

What do you remember best about being 12?

I started 7th grade at age 12 in the fall of 1977. It was my first, and only, year in a private school. That was the year that I knew how much my daddy really loved me. He couldn’t afford private school, but the public school district that we were in would have had me going to the most dangerous junior high school in the district. After hearing what happened to a girl there, my daddy moved heaven and earth, worked double shifts, wore himself to a frazzle, to get me in and keep me in that private school until he could move us to another school district.

January 18th is National Winnie the Pooh Day. Which character do you relate to the most, and why? If you're stumped go here for inspiration.

I relate the most to Eeyore. It always seems that there is a cloud following me around, always a bit of rain on my parade. Some days more than others, but it is still always there.

BUT, the site that Joyce linked to thinks otherwise:

And, with the way they asked the questions, I *would* be more Kanga than Eeyore. I would love to have an adventure. I would love to have a fresh place to take awesome nature photos. And, YES, listening for a bear would keep me awake at night. Not because I would be afraid of the bear, but because I would want to take its picture!

What's an app you use that helps simplify or make life easier for you in some way?

The camera app in my phone is a big help sometimes. My memory is horrible these days and shows no signs of improving. If there is something that I need to remember, like what level of the parking garage we parked on, I just take a picture of the sign nearest our car. Then, when we need to find the car again, we have the picture to tell us where it is.

San Francisco (CA), San Diego (CA), San Juan (PR) San Antonio (TX) Sanibel (FL)...you have an all expenses paid long weekend to one of these destinations. Which one do you choose and why?

Once Davey gets back stateside, I would probably pic San Diego because I think that is the closest of the choices to where he is supposed to be stationed next and maybe we would get to visit with him.
Otherwise, I don’t know. I don’t like big cities at all. San Francisco has all of that great architecture and history. San Antonio is beautiful and loaded with history. I don’t have any desire to go to Puerto Rico and Sanibel is too beachy for me.

Share with us a song that makes you feel nostalgic? For what?

“Oh what a lady, what a night”…This song is nostalgic for me because David adapted it for our oldest daughter when she was born. We called her “Laynie”, so it was “late December back in ’90, what a very special time for me….what a Laynie, what a night”. It makes me remember the look of total awe that was in his eyes beholding his daughter for the first time.

Laynie's Birth Day

Okay, this one is hot off the presses, so to speak.

My life’s clock is ticking faster.
There are things that I must master.
Appointments I must keep.
And you want me to sleep.

There won’t be time for this later.

  1. The ASAP was pretty hard to do. That was so awesome of your dad. Love the photo from Laynie's birth.

    1. It was a very difficult one for me to answer, too. I think being hungry helped me pull that one off.
Thank you, on all counts. :)
      Have a blessed day!

    1. Thank you, Jessica. I was a child of the 60s/70s and became a teen in the late 70s. Lots of the music back then and into the '80s was great and brings back fond memories. :)

      Have a blessed evening!

    1. Thank you, Ellen. I agree. He had his faults, as we all do, some rather significant ones, but I know that he loved me and he worked himself to death trying to take care of our family. He knew his responsibilities and took care of them and that included taking care of his mama, too. Taking care of his family was important to him. Thank you for your kind words. I sure do miss my daddy.

      Have a blessed evening. :)

  4. I like the idea of using your camera to help with memory issues. I never thought of that! I'm not that good with the camera on my phone, but I'm a master with my little digital camera. I just need to keep it in my purse. Have a great week.
    Cheers!

    1. Thank you. :) One thing that I've heard over and over again, the best camera is the one you have with you. I sometimes have our Canon with me, but more often than not, the only camera I have on me is the phone camera. That's what the phone is to me...a camera. :) What kind of phone do you have? I often have trouble getting the pictures in focus on the phone because I have a hard time seeing the screen. It is hit or miss for me, so I take lots of shots so maybe I get at least one clear one out of the bunch. Take a day and go out and practice with your phone's camera. You can do it, then you'll always have a camera with you,and you'll be the master of both your phone and your digital camera. :)

Thank you. I hope that you have a blessed week, too. :)

  5. Loved your poem! I like how you use your phone. I will have to try that. We did that years ago when we were in Disney World so we could remember where we parked the car!

    1. Thanks, Paula! I think if I went to Disney World, I'd have to use my phone to create bread crumbs so that I wouldn't get lost in that place. I'd definitely have to use it to create my path to the bathrooms. haha

What was your favorite part of Disney World? I've never been there, but I've been to Six Flags, Carowinds, and Ghost Town in the Sky.

I hope that you have a great weekend. :)
