Wednesday Hodgepodge

1. What would you say is the best and worst thing about moving house?

The worst part is the packing and, most especially, unpacking! It seems endless. We have moved a few zillion times, many of those times with young children and teenagers, who took it upon themselves to unpack things that I had already packed and marked "Final" AND divided things around in different boxes so that pretty much nothing was in the box I had originally put it in or with the things it had been packed with.  If we ever move again, that part should be easier.  Unpacking is a whole 'nother subject.  We still haven't unpacked fully and we've just celebrated our 12th year in this house.

Starting over in a new place is the best part. It is a new adventure with lots of things to discover.  It has often felt very refreshing to live in a new house, make new dreams and plans, and further refine my definition of "me".

2. What's moved you recently?

The school shooting in Townville, South Carolina is the most recent thing that I can think of.  I don't know what prompted that boy to kill his father or to go shoot at the playground of the elementary school.  I don't know why little Jacob had to die because a teenager was troubled.  Why did this child have to pay for someone else's wrongdoing?

3. Do you feel your life is moving forward, backward, or is on hold? How so?

I feel very much like it is on hold for me and several others in our family.

We can't move forward with our lives as old folks until the young folks (some of whose lives are also on hold) are able to get going with their own lives.  We need to be here for them and I don't mind that.  I don't know how to help those that are on hold and feeling frustrated because they aren't where they had planned to be at this point in their lives. It is frustrating and I completely understand that because I am in the same boat.   All I can do is pray that things will go well for these loved ones and they will realize their dreams.

Our financial situation is another thing that is keeping us on hold.  Until something gives and we find a way that works consistently to make money from home, we aren't going to get anywhere.

4. On the move, move mountains, get a move on, it's your move, or bust a move...which phrase best applies to some aspect of your life right now? Explain.

I want to be on the move, but it is going to take moving a mountain for us to get a move on! I would love to make a move, wayyyyyyyyyyyy out in the country, where I wouldn't have to endure the cigarette smoke of the neighbors.  If I were to 'bust a move' I would end up in the emergency room most likely.

Inside, I feel like a herd of mustangs trying to break free, but being held back by circumstances beyond their control.  But, once those circumstances change, look out, because they are going to run free!

5. What song makes you want to get up and move?

That one is easy!

6. Your favorite snack to grab when you're 'on the move'?

If we are going anywhere, I have to be very careful about what I eat. Some foods cause reactions that are not very conducive to leaving the house.  Usually, I am okay to eat a snack like barbecue chips or Funyuns or Ritz crackers.   French fries usually work out fine, too, but they are not consistently good around this area.

7. What one accessory makes your house feel like home?

I don't know about accessories, but my family being here makes this place feel like home. When David is in the hospital or the kids are gone, which is pretty much all the time now with school, work, and the Marines, this house is just a house.  It doesn't feel a bit like a home if I am here alone.  Home is whenever and wherever we happen to be together.

8. Insert your own random thought here.

I can't think of anything of my own to put here this week, so I thought I would share a few quotes about home.

"My home is in Heaven. I'm just traveling through this world."   Billy Graham

"Where thou art, that is home."  Emily Dickinson

"Where we love is home - home that our feet may leave, but not our hearts." Oliver Wendell Holmes, Sr.
"Home is the nicest word there is."  Laura Ingalls Wilder

  1. I enjoy these posts and learning more about you. I have only moved into college and from my childhood home to the home I am in now. I don't want to move, but it sure would be a great excuse to declutter.
Home is where my cats are :)

    1. Thanks, Ellen. I enjoy getting to learn more about you, too. When you moved to college, how far was it from home? When I went to college, it was about 120 miles from home. Our oldest daughter's school is about 60 miles or so from here and the youngest about 160 miles away.

I like that "Home is where my cats are." That's great. :)

  4. All the home quotes are good. I enjoy my home and the loved ones who are home to me ... even the ones who don't actually reside here. I hope things improve for you and your family soon.

    1. Thank you, Connie. I am glad that you enjoyed the home quotes. Things will be okay here. I just have yet to get adjusted to our new "normal"...there are just too many new normals happening at one time. :)

It sounds like you're very blessed with a home full of love and loved ones. :)

    1. It is very sad. The children of this world aren't safe anywhere. There are three places that people should be guaranteed of safety, in my opinion: home, church, and school. Unfortunately, there is no guaranteed safety in those places either. :(

Maybe things will break loose for all of us that are on hold very soon. You're in my prayers.

Thanks for stopping by and commenting. Have a blessed weekend!
