Bad Guys and Guns and Florida

The recent horrific event in Orlando is all over the Internet and folks are using it as yet another opportunity to scream for tighter control on guns. I will give them one point: If this dude was already on the FBI watch list, then how did he get a gun? Maybe some of the articles out there have covered that issue, but I haven't seen it yet.

I think that this was a sad event just like all killings are. All life is sacred. However, it is hate at the root of this tragedy, not access to guns. The good guys are the ones that follow the rules and don’t shoot people without good cause (for example, self-defense). Those that shoot people like this person did are not inclined to follow the rules about guns or anything else, so legislating guns more won’t change anything. It will just make it harder for us that do follow the rules to defend ourselves from those that do not follow the rules.

Wouldn’t it be great to be able to live in a land where no one ever had to be afraid? We could walk the streets without having to look over our shoulders. We could let our children outside to play and be children without fear. We could close our eyes at night while leaving the windows open. No violence, no hate. Just love the way Heavenly Father intended from the beginning.

Heaven help us all.

  1. Well, he could have gotten a gun rather easily, I am sure. Gun laws only make it harder on good people to get a gun. It really doesn't stop someone set on doing wrong or harm. If he didn't have a gun, he could have put a bomb in there, blocked the doors and started a fire. It's a sad, sorry shame all of those people were killed, but it shouldn't make us rush to change our laws. Perhaps some good can come out of this: if they prove he had any association with ISIS or any radical muslim group, maybe this will make them take it seriously! Lord knows our government falls all over themselves to do things for gays. But there is genocide going on because of radical muslims and Christians being exterminated because of radical muslims and they just blink and look the other way.

    1. I'm so glad that someone gets my point of view, Barbara!

I hope it will make them take it seriously. Because, really, my thought on all the killing and everything else is ENOUGH ALREADY!

Law breakers aren't going to be affected one way or another by law changes. They aren't following them anyway. I tried to get that point across to someone as a comment on their blog and my comment got titled as "NRA propaganda" and they were going to "educate" me and their other readers about how my thoughts were wrong.

I may not be the brightest bulb on the Christmas tree, but I'm not too stupid to see close-mindedness right in front of me. Their unwillingness to hear comments other than a "yes man" response is testament to that close-mindedness. Their minds were made up and snapped shut from the get-go.

Oh well, it was a slow Monday anyway and their post stirred conversation around this household. What about yours? What is your house talking about these days?

      Have a blessed night!

    2. That we are all tired. That there is no way to keep the pool in good shape with all of this rain. That our church has some awesome stuff coming up in July. If I start to discuss serious issues with. Pete, he tends to start to get sick. Just can't handle it. But has come in handy before: with a high pressure salesman, all I have to do is disagree a little and Pete will say that's all and walk out. :)

    3. I agree. All this rain is making it difficult to keep anything up properly. Our yard is a wreck. Thankfully we don't have a pool to have to keep up with. :)

What kind of things are coming up for your church in July?

It can get rather frustrating not being able to have a serious conversation. I understand. Whatever it takes to get a salesman to back off, right? I don't like high pressure salespeople. I'd rather do my shopping on my own and then find them when I need to ask a question or finish the purchase.

      Have a blessed day!

    1. Yes, it is very sad. This world is just so evil and ruled by hate everywhere we turn. Hate is at the root of this whole event and other events like it. It isn't guns that need to be controlled, it is the hate. :(
