I is for If We Never Meet Again

This video shows a recording session that happened three weeks before Hovie Lister died. This is his final recording. Hovie was the founder of The Statesmen Quartet back in 1948.

When he turns to the camera (time stamp approximately 1:26) and repeats the phrase, "If we never meet again here, then I'll meet ya on that beautiful shore", it gives me chills. It is like he is looking across time and distance and talking directly to me personally. I think it is awesome that one day I *will* meet Hovie and Denver, Big Chief, Doy, Jake, Rosie, Jackson, and all those great gospel singers in a place where there is no more suffering, no more tears, and more love than I could ever imagine.

Like Hovie says…what a promise!

  1. Suzanne, I remember this old gospel hymn and I love the promise the lyrics hold. It'll be interesting to meet those we never met in this life and those we will see again on the other side. Thanks for sharing such a beautiful song today.

    1. You're welcome and thank you, too, Cathy, for commenting here. I am glad that you enjoyed the song.

I agree. Who is someone that you never met that you would like to meet?

One person that I never got to meet that I would love to is my great-grandmother Annie, whom this blog is named for. My daddy loved his grandma so very much. She died 5 years before I was born. She's one person that I miss, though I never knew her. I guess that seems weird to most people. :)

  3. What a wonderful gospel hymn and a special presentation. My mother always liked this song. I remember singing it in church. Thanks for your daily comments. I look forward to seeing your AtoZ posts.

I think it is a beautiful song, too. It is bittersweet as well knowing that Hovie passed away so soon after the recording. Don't you know that there's got to be one mega grand all-night sing going on up there in Heaven with all these guys there? :)

I have enjoyed the first week of the challenge. Yes, I'm meeting my goals of posting. For the first few days, I commented on 5 blogs a day. Now, I'm commenting on 9 a day. That number will likely increase as the challenge goes on.

How about for you? Are you meeting your goals?

      Have a blessed night!

  5. What a beautiful, incomparable experience awaits us! They have that song, "I Can Only Imagine" but I can't imagine. It's beyond what I can comprehend. But as I have said elsewhere, my Lord and Savior will be there and that's all I need to know!
