Chats on the Farmhouse Porch 2013: #32

Everyday Ruralty

Questions:

1. Have you ever baked bread from scratch?

Yes, I have. I love bread and homemade is the best kind. I haven't made it in a very long time, however.

2. If we decided to have lunch on the porch, and you so kindly volunteered to fix it (thank you). What would you serve?

I would serve a salad with all sorts of good stuff in it, including avocados, bacon, and red onions.

3. Show us, or tell us about your key chain ( the thing you have on your car or house keys).

I used to have a little, stuffed, black and white cow key chain. Now, all I have is a series of metal rings hooked together, nothing at all cute or fancy. It is just practical, not fun.

4. Have you ever tried a challenging or dangerous sport? No. I don't mean rush hour traffic, but I understand the confusion. :)

I have asthma, so most sports would be a challenge for me. I was on a softball team in seventh grade for a short time. Not being able to run or bat or throw or catch didn't exactly make me the prize player on the team. This particular attempt at sports ended up putting me in danger on one occasion. My teacher/coach brought her little puppy to the ball field and she had to leave for some reason. She left me to stay with her puppy while she went to do whatever it was she had to do. No one else was there, just little ol' twelve year old me. This ball field was in a very dangerous part of town. Rapes and murders and general assaults were no stranger to that part of town. It was lucky for me, and not so lucky for my coach, that my mama happened along to find me sitting there all by myself with the puppy. I wasn't on the team anymore after that.

5. Have you ever written poetry? If not, have you ever had anyone write a poem for you? If you aren't happy with this question, we'll even accept a "Roses are red..." poem.

It is funny that you asked this question as just last night I was scanning through my external hard drive to find my poetry collections. I am thinking about publishing them. I just have to figure out the Kindle book formatting requirements so that I can get them laid out properly.

I have been writing poetry for years. My most prolific years were those after the stillbirth of our daughter Dorian. My poems aren't generally happy and uplifting; most are sad. I have also done what I call 'formula poetry'. What I mean by that is that I follow a rhyme scheme or style. There are many styles of poetry and it is fun to play around with them. Here is are a couple from my collection. One is from the heart and one is a formula poem.

  1. I like your poetry! You should publish it. I had some serious poetry years ago, but it has not surfaced in house cleaning. It is somewhere. Now my poetry is side splitting sillies to add a smile to someone's day.Oh, kindred friend- I had a stillborn daughter too. My first daughter. He name was Rebecca. Four more daughter did come home. Oh, and a big hairy thing named Wendell!

    1. Thank you, Patrice. I would love to read your poetry, both the serious and the silly.

I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your sweet little Rebecca. {{{hugs}}} I can't imagine facing such a loss with the first baby. It is so hard no matter which pregnancy, but with the first, I think I would have been too afraid to try again. Dorian was our fourth pregnancy, with two live births and an angel baby before her. There were four more pregnancies after her...also yielding two survivors and two angels. I am glad that you were blessed with four more daughters. That is wonderful!

Thanks so much for stopping by and sharing this with me. I hope that you have a wonderful week.

    1. Thank you. I hope that I will be able to. At the moment I am at a standstill with figuring out the Kindle formatting using Word because something has my Word margins off course. I don't have a clue how to fix them.

Thanks for stopping by and commenting. Have a great week!
