Chats on the Farmhouse Porch 2013: #18

Thank you for your service to this country, Uncle Earl. You are loved and will be missed.

Rest in peace.

 Questions

When it's time to cut the grass (mow the lawn), who does it?

You're supposed to mow it? We haven't had a working mower in so long, it isn't even funny. When our neighbors mows his yard, he mows our front yard. The backyard is too scary for anybody. We were finally able to get a new push mower, but it has been raining recently, so the grass grows on.

If someone gave you $500 dollars and you could not spend it on yourself, who would you spend it on?

I would spend it either on my husband or my kids, or maybe on more yarn for the lapghans for the nursing home. Or, send it to a friend in need. They've blessed me in my time of need and I would want to bless them back.

Have you ever taken a blogging break or considered one?

I think I live in blogging break-ville. I don't write nearly as often as I'd like to. I have totally lost focus and can't concentrate enough to write anything decent. So, many days nothing gets written, no matter how much I want to write.

Are you bothered by spring allergies or hay fever? If not spring, any other time of the year?

I have the "if anything at all is growing" allergies. It doesn't matter what time of year it is, something always has me congested and sneezing. However, in the spring and in the fall it is the worst.

What's new with you?

We're adjusting to David being officially housebound, though hopefully it is just temporary. He goes back to the doctor Friday to see if the cadavaric skin graft has "taken" and to make sure that he isn't infected. If it hasn't taken or he is infected, I'm not sure what the next step is. He was a guinea pig for this procedure. The graft was done last Wednesday and he hasn't been out of the house since then. Cabin fever is an understatement. We're aren't used to staying home all the time and I'm not used to going out to deal with things alone. It is a growth time for us both, I guess.

    1. Thank you, Yvonne. We appreciate that very much. Yes, it is a worry. He's already had an amputation on the other foot (the big toe). It healed fine, but this ulcer refuses to heal.

Thank you for stopping by and commenting. Have a great week!

  2. I love your Navy logo. My dad was retired Navy, he passed away 2 years ago February. Way too young if you ask me. I hope David gets better soon, I will be praying for you both. It was nice chatting with you, have a blessed week :O)

    1. Thank you, Sherri. I am so sorry for the loss of your daddy. Mine passed away on 9 Dec 2012. No matter how old we are, our daddies are too young to die.

The majority of my uncles were in the Navy. My mama's oldest brother brought home sailors for his little sisters to marry. Something happened to the one he brought home for my mama. My daddy wasn't in service due to a back injury and his brother was in the Army. Uncle Earl was the one that my uncle brought home for my mama's oldest sister.

Thank you for the prayers and the visit. I hope that you have a blessed week, too. :)

  3. I hope David heals well. This sounds like a tough time for you. I used to think I could blog my way to becoming PW. Now, I'm just happy to have some nice friends. Have a good week!

    1. Thank you, Patrice. I'm having a dense moment. Please explain PW. :)

  4. BTW- how's the book going? I still think you did a wonderful cover. :)

    1. Thank you. David likes the cover, too. I wasn't so sure about putting that pic of me on it, but didn't know what else to put. Other people have their pics on the back cover, so I figured maybe on the front would be OK.

As for how it's going...slowly but surely. I've added a couple of new images and some more prompts (the Sneak Peak available in the sidebar is still only the 60 prompts, though). I am hoping to have it completed by the end of the year, but things keep slowing me down. Lack of focus and concentration are two of those things.

How is your writing coming along?

Thank you for your encouragement. I really appreciate it!

  6. I hope David is healing well and receives good news at the doctor's visit. I hope it becomes a bit easier for you to get out of the house. Sounds like we have the same allergies! At least we are not alone. :) Thanks for stopping by my blog. I have appreciated your comments. Take care and have a great week.

    1. Thank you. Part of the graft had come out of his foot, but overall, everything was doing fine. He goes back on May 13 to have it checked again.

I'm sorry that you have to deal with allergies, too. There's no fun, that's for sure. My eyes have been itching and burning like crazy, the last few days especially.

You're welcome, and thank you for stopping by my blog, too. I am happy for the comments. I hope that you have a blessed week, too!

  7. What a time of adjustment you are having. Our pastor says "This, too, shall pass". First time he said that to me, I said, but I want it now. And eventually it did pass. Have patience with your self and your loved one.

    1. Patience is one thing that I'll never pray for again, but I certainly need it. I guess we could all use more of it. But, we get it through the fire and that is why I don't pray for me and counsel against doing that. :)

Thank you for the encouragement. I appreciate that very much as well as you stopping by and commenting. Have a blessed week!
