A to Z Blogging Challenge: K is for Kansas

Kansas is a windy state. We ended up there during the evacuation for Hurricane Rita in 2005. We crossed the state line from Oklahoma into Kansas and stopped at a gas station. We got out of the car and were nearly blown away by a gust of wind. It was great!

There is a town in Kansas that met up with some pretty strong wind several years ago: Greensburg. In 2007, the town of Greensburg was totally devastated by an F-5 tornado that struck on the night of May 4.

This town was virtually blown off the map, but it didn't not lie down and die. They have come together to survive and rebuild.

Greensburg is becoming a green town, using the very power that tried to destroy it to power it into the future: the wind. Wind turbines provide power to the city.

I think that it is inspiring to see a group of people that have endured so much, that no one would blame for just giving up after such a tragedy, pulling together for the good of the town.

May Our Father continue to bless Greensburg, Kansas!
