Chats on the Farmhouse Porch 33: #25

Please come on over to join us on Patrice's porch and don't forget to bring a carrot or two for Wendell!

Tell me a fond memory of an elderly person?

I often spent time at my great-aunt's house. Aunt Mae was my maternal grandma's older sister. She had beautiful long, silvery hair that she usually wore in a bun. When she would take it down, she let me brush it. I thought that was one of the most fun things in the world to do back then. I would give anything to be able to do that again.

What's your favorite flavor of jam or jelly?

My paternal granny used to make apple butter. I loved her apple butter! We have to get apple butter from the grocery store now and it just isn't the same at all, but it is still good.

What goes through your mind when you drive by one of those whopping, huge houses that look like something in a magazine?

I'm sure glad that I don't have the mortgage payment that those folks must have! I also think it is ridiculous to pay so much for a huge house with no yard jammed right up to neighbors. Some are so close to each other that you could reach out of one house into the next one. Way too close for my taste!

What's your favorite way to relax?

Lately, it is most relaxing to me to walk through cemeteries. On days that I can't do that, I guess it would be reading, though I'm not getting much done in the way of reading books lately.

What's your favorite kind of pasta?

As far as the pasta itself, I don't know that I have a favorite. They all taste the same to me. But, one of my favorite pasta dishes is spaghetti. I also like pasta with Alfredo sauce.

  1. Mae sounds special. My mom had an aunt named Mae. You don't hear that name anymore. I love apple butter. Store apple butter just isn't that same as homemade. Have a great weekend!

    1. Thanks, Patrice. Aunt Mae was a very special lady. I think it is cool that your mama had an Aunt Mae, too. My youngest daughter's name is a combination of Aunt Mae's and my grandma's names. Everybody tries to correct the pronunciation of her name, thinking our Southern accent is getting in the way, but no, "Mae" is really the start of her name. :)

I hope that you have a great weekend, too. Sorry for the delay in my response. Thanks for stopping by and commenting!
