A Puppy Named Sue

I found the following writing prompt on Mama Kat's Losin' It blog. When this prompt showed up in the prompt-sharer, I thought that it was just perfect.

"If you had the time and money...what charity would you help raise awareness for?"

A friend on a photography forum had posted photographs of the cutest little puppy that is destined to be a therapy puppy. Those photos and this prompt coming across my screen on the same day, well, it just seems that I am meant to write about a project that is important to my husband and myself.

We have a friend that lives with Retinitis Pigmentosa. Over the years that we have known him, he has had three guide dogs: Pilot, Hickory, and now Major. Beautiful dogs, all of them.

Two years ago, our friend lost his wife suddenly and unexpectedly. She was still young, in her mid-to-late forties. It is our friend's wish to sponsor a guide dog and to name it "Sue" to honor his late wife's memory. He seeks to raise $3,500 in order to do to this.

This is something that we want very much to be able to help him do. Please help us to help him reach his goal. You can give through the PayPal "Donate" button on this site, or go directly to his site for more information: Major's House.

Southeastern Guide Dogs, Inc. provides guide dogs for people like our friend and many others around the country. This service is free of charge to the visually impaired. It is not free, however, to raise, feed, and train these puppies. This is where you can help. There are volunteer opportunities as well as opportunities to sponsor a guide dog at various levels. Here is the link to their main page: Southeastern Guide Dogs and the link to the page explaining about sponsorship levels: Sponsorships.

Thank you!
