Writer's Workshop Prompt Thursdays

During my blog travels this week, I was blessed to find another writing prompt blog called Mama's Losin' It.

This post is based on Mama Kat's Writer's Workshop prompt:

Share a story of a memorable dinner.

Before David and I got married, I was trying to learn how to cook. I wanted to cook something special for my soon-to-be in-laws. I decided on Chicken Cacciatore. Folks should warn brides-to-be to try out new recipes elsewhere before cooking them for in-laws, especially when they've never used that recipe before. I was having to learn all of the cooking and food-related terms on my own and I had no clue what the recipe meant when it said a clove of garlic. I knew what garlic was, mind you, it was the clove part that had me puzzled.

So, not knowing any better, and not wanting to show my ignorance of the garlic parts by asking *the mother-in-law*, I used the whole bulb of garlic.

Needless to say, anyone that ate that meal didn't have to worry about mosquito attacks for at least a month, if not their entire lifetime.

Emeril would have been so pleased. :)

  1. Good advice to try the recipe first. I don't cook at all but I think I would not have used that much Garlic!

  4. Thanks, all of you, for stopping by and commenting. I can't help but laugh when I think back and remember that dinner.

The funny thing is that, these days, my husband and I could eat an entire bulb of garlic without blinking. It is an acquired taste that I had not acquired yet way back then.

And, believe it or not, I did eventually learn how to cook and none of my in-laws died for it. haha

  6. Cooking is so not my thing. I am hit or miss. I am lucky to have a few meals that I (think) I'm good at. I knew exactly what you were talking about when it comes to figuring out recipes. Good story. Made me giggle!

  7. Thanks, Jessica and Kindred Adventures. :)

I have another cooking catastrophe story, but it is one that is much better told from my husband's point of view. I just hope that he'll blog it. haha

    Have a wonderful day!

  8. Okay Suz,
This was a memorable meal, to be sure. I loved it. None of us died. We did have a little heart burn. I think about this meal every time I chop garlic now.

You asked me to share the story of your other cooking catastrophe so here it is.

Honestly people Suzanne is a GREAT cook. She somehow manages to come up with a great meal out of absolutely nothing.

I love you very much Suz!
