Five Minute Friday: On Waiting

Join us for the fun!, GypsyMama!

This week's theme is "On Waiting". We're supposed to write for 5 minutes, no editing, no fretting. Then post a link to your blog post so that we can all read it, too. Thanks!

Waiting...I've never been good at it. I have not always been the most patient person. When I want something, I want it NOW!

Over the last 5 or 6 weeks, I feel like I've made great strides in becoming a more patient person. I'm not as fretful and in a hurry as I was when I was younger. I believe that the things that I learned about being thankful in the book called One Thousand Gifts, by Ann Voskamp, has had a great deal to do with this. Slowing down allows the good things to happen without me flying by so fast that they get away unnoticed.

I can find joy in this slowing down and waiting. Does it mean that I want to have to wait for something? No, I would still rather have it now. :) But, the journey to getting there is more pleasant now that it isn't a frantic race to get to whatever it is that I'm trying to get to at any given moment.

One of the most fun times to wait for is spring. In these early days of not-quite-spring yet, we've been waiting for the bluebonnets and other wildflowers to bloom. The Indian Paintbrushes have been out probably for a week now, along with assorted other little flowers. Yesterday, we were blessed to see the first patches of bluebonnets scattered along the sides of the old country road leading to Lake Lovely (our name for a special area around here in Southeast Texas.) By next week, there should be zillions of them around!

Well worth the wait, in my opinion. :)
